NSD Finish Thread

I do not have unrealistic expectations. You can blame Jalen Hurd and injuries for losses to South Carolina and Vandy...I choose to blame the coaches who get paid absurd salaries to carry that burden. So many forget that we could've, maybe even should've, had two more losses. What would you say then? Be patient...

Did you miss the part of my post where I said the coaching needed to improve or did you choose to ignore it because it didn't fit your predetermined narrative? I'll hang up and listen.

Realistically, I think Conliffe is going to UF. Would love to be wrong, but he's definitely trending that way. I think we have a legitimate shot at Ray, but beating out Bama will be tough. I don't have a good read on Sterling. I'm not sold on Butch having any rabbits in his hat this year. Not every year can be magical. Sometimes it's about building solid depth. This class does that well and sets us up to make a big splash with next year's recruits. We're not Bama. Until we demonstrate a high level of success, we're not going to have top classes every year. That doesn't mean our classes are bad. We just have to look past the star ratings and see how they develop.

"would've should've had two more losses"?? But we didn't have 2 more losses. Look at the facts

Did you really expect a national championship or even an SEC Championship after only a few years with the complete rebuild that has had to take place. Look. I am disappointed with how last season turned out and I am frustrated with some of the decisions that Butch has made. However, I still have faith that he can find success here. The problem is so many UT fans have unrealistic expectations in the short run and are not patient enough to let things mature and reap the possibility of sustained success in the future. Most would be happy with one NC or SECC now if we floundered around for 5 or 6 years after that. I'd rather be patient and see if Butch can't get us to a level where we are in Atlanta and the CFP hunt for a decade or two. That takes time and letting Butch do a little learning on the job. Yall don't have the patience for that though.

Clemson fans were all rattled about Dabo 3-4 years ago & look at em now!

Elijah Conliffe

Defensive tackle

Hampton (Va.) High School

The race for Conliffe, a four-star prospect, has gotten interesting down the stretch. Tennessee and Florida appeared to be the favorites to land him a week ago. The Vols tried to get a feel for which direction he was leaning during their final visit with him last week, but Conliffe didn’t tip his hand. UT responded by adding three-star receiver Josh Palmer on Tuesday. Sources have said there’s still a scenario in which Tennessee could have room for Conliffe. But the odds of the Vols squeezing him into their class now are slimmer than they once were, and there’s still no guarantee they would land him either way.

Aaron Sterling

Defensive end

Tucker (Ga.) High School

Sterling, a three-star prospect, has been involved with Tennessee for months and has continued to give the Vols strong consideration coming off his official visit to Knoxville a little more than a week ago. He’s planning to choose between South Carolina and UT on Wednesday, but sources have indicated for weeks that the Gamecocks are the team to beat, and nothing seems to have changed coming off his official visit to Columbia, S.C., over the weekend. There’s a good chance Tennessee wouldn’t have room for him at this point, anyway, and sources said the Vols’ coaches didn’t visit him last week.

Looking like Vols are done with DL, unless they get Ray. Looking like the only other potential remaining change to this class may be Pouncy in at WR, possibly in place of one of the current WR commits.

Yeah I think this is the way we finish...if Murphy or Jones flips then we sign Pouncey

If we get Ray this should be a top 15 class if not probably top 20

Recent history suggests even a team score of 247.60 — the best-case scenario for any single player the Vols still might add — still would leave Tennessee well short of a top-10 finish. The same team score would have left the Vols at No. 16 in the 247Sports team rankings for both the 2015 and 2016 classes.
Their current score of 236.24 would have put them at No. 20 in the 247Sports team rankings for the 2015 class, and the same score in 2016 would have left Tennessee at No. 21.

In my own personal opinion even if we don't get Ray we should be around that #15th mark regardless. Depends on who we end up getting for that final spot I guess.

If it's Sterling I have no doubt it's going to be close to that #15th spot. If it's somebody else like a WR in Pouncey or another WR then it might drop us just outside the top 15 at #16th or #17th. Not lower than top 20 for sure. We get Ray which I am not expecting & it's a top 15 for sure & probably finish around #13th possibly #12th. Thanks!

Really what is the difference between a,#12 finish and #20 in this subjective bs?

I think Murphy flips (or is dropped) for Pouncey
Sterling to USCe
Conliffe to Gators
Ray to Bama
Everyone else committed signs
15-20 finish 7-8 in SEC

I saw this, and feel he sticks with us.

After reading this, and realizing I am going out on a limb, but I feel Butch has a planned blue shirt or grey shirt option to make room for Ray. And by now, he has made his choice. And I think that choice brings him to Knoxville.

Can anyone remember a more boring close to a recruiting season? In all my years of following recruiting, I can't recall an approaching NSD when we didn't have and pretty good shot with multiple elite players. Sure we have a punchers chance at Ray, but even during the Dooley years there was some excitement going into NSD.

Nope. Let's start a thread about it!

All the players in class will be exciting. One of them may make the play that ends Bama's streak against us. We can judge how good they were in four years.

I agree with you. However, we might see CBJ pull something off tomorrow. You never know. Maybe we let 2-3 recruits go & get a flip with a couple of 4*-5* recruits.

That's about the only way it's going to be exciting tomorrow for UT fans. We have what we have now & Ray is the only excitement left unless CBJ does what I mentioned above. Thanks!

I just looked at 247 and Rivals current team rankings...even though our score on those sites is going to be low I think this is one of those years where the rankings are very top heavy (i.e. the highest rated players are mostly in the higher rated classes)...just looking at who is behind us in those rankings I honestly don't see us dropping below 18th in either ranking...normally I would have said 20th but I'm going to predict 18th on those two sites
