Nunes softens verbal

Chris Simms.....Chris Leak.....Cadillac Williams.....It happens all the time and won't be the last time no matter who the HC is. Just like selling crack...you are gonna get ripped off and you are gonna get busted...just the nature of the business!

Very true.

In another thread a poster put the blame on him waivering on the fans booing, which is idiotic at best! The Nunes family saw the booing as a glaring symptom of the problems with our program right now.

Seeing another highly rated QB performing so poorly probably didn't instill faith that we can even develop and prepare a good QB at this either. Blaming us as fans is pretty naive to say the least.

It probably didn't hurt that he's a kid and jumped into a decision without ever realizing the travel distance and separation from home. I almost went to Tulane out of High School for no real reason. Glad I changed my mind.

It was a big surprise when he committed, he probably realized he should look at a couple schools, instead of check them out on the internet.

He checked UT out several times and KNEW the travel distance and problems...This is a cop out reason...Just come out and say that the state of the program is lousy and they kids do not get the coaching necessary in today's game to get to the next level.

People were booing at the Auburn game....

So if that "Boo Theory" is true, then Auburn should start losing recruits at exactly...now

Get over it people, fans boo

"I would like to apologize to the University of Tennessee as I had mistakenly thought that I would not have an opportunity to play at Stanford.

“Stanford has always been my dream to attend and for the past three years, ever since I’ve been coached by him (coach Jim Harbaugh) at his camp, it’s been my dream to play for Coach Harbaugh. Stanford is the only school I’ve camped at for the past few years and I believe that I have to follow my heart.

“I’ve been able to have a great relationship with the entire Stanford program having made probably 10 trips up to the campus and games. I will be able to stay close to my family and attend one of the greatest universities in the world. I’m proud and excited to be able to say that I can play for the Stanford Cardinal.”

Stanford is an amazing place. I wish him the best. Tennessee has a lot to offer, but I don't think it would be worth leaving behind the coast, a top-notch education, and access to friends and family to come participate in this debacle. I hope we can get our house back in order, because this isn't fun.

I dont think that it has anything to do with the boos in the game. I mean I know he mentioned it but what team has not heard boos from their crowd??? Look at Alabama and Notre Dame they had the worst season ever last year and ended up with the top 5 recruiting class. I think it really does have a lot to do with the length of the trip and his family having to make that every game. I mean if I was coming out of high school and I was a real superstar and I saw what Tenn had in youth on that team and what could be possible in the years to come...I would want to be a part of it. David Oku said he did not care about the boos he had an amazing time while in Knoxville. But I think anyone who knows sports understands by watching us play that we do not have a QB at all right now, so until we do we will not see what Clawsen really has!

I mean I know this year sucks and it's gonna be a long 1 but we will not be down forever guys. We have some really good players that are young and some real good players that are coming in. We just gotta keep our heads up and focus on whats to come. Hopefully Crompton will be done and we can get a new QB some snaps and get him ready for next year. And you can almost bet their will be some coaching changes next year as well.
Go Vols!

Great post, I agree completely. This kind of stuff happens all the time in all college sports. Did people forget that we were on the other end of the spectrum with Emmanuel Negedu in basketball?

Bottom line is that Stanford is a quality choice, he made a good decision for himself. We will have another 4 or 5 star recruit at UT, and its not like we don't have any on our roster now. Give the staff a little time and it all works out.

If the guy had gone to some other school that had even remotely similar travel distance I'd give your assumption a lot more credence. Considering the school selection it's all but impossible to dismiss distance as a significant if not the sole reason for the change.

If he doesn't want to be here, screw him. He's overrated anyway. Recruit a Tennessee boy.

Hadn't seen the typical response when this happens, just thought I'd take care of it.

since when did twice become several times?

I for one am done giving this staff any more time. They have proven time and time again that they do not have the ability to turn this around.

Amen....Lest people forget the Chris Simms debacle that cost us a chance at some quality QBs, Nunes classy departure will allow the coaches to continue to recruit for a quality QB. It is not all doom and gloom. I personally stand behind Fulmer and his coaches. Let him do his job and we will be back on top.

So what? Tired of chasing a guy that's scared of a few boos. How would he handle the Swamp and other hostile crowds of the SEC? We need a mobile quaterback if you ask me.

Just like Crompton!. Lets recruit our QB in state for a change. Surely some corn fed Tennessee HS recruit wants to play for the Big Orange!!!:clapping:

good luck to him..
i dont have a problem with him following his dream..
we all woulda done the same too..

i just hope we get someone who can take his place?
Coleman, Petty....

Petty maybe better than we are thinking. After a redshirt season and a season as the backup. I know Malik Stokes should be a lock at qb since his brother is coming next year. However I dont think he is that big (157pounds), Does anybody know Malik's stats so far this season?

Stanford according to scout.com. I have a link but it is a pay site and I don't have a membership.
