then how are dixiecrats inherently racist? geography driving it? maybe you should head to the Northeast for a lesson in racism from non-Dixiecrats.

I'll just say this. Being raised in the segregated south, being told that black people are monsters and apes, can really affect one's thinking.

Trust me it is every bit as common in the north as it is in the south. Segregation is alive and well in the north as we speak.

Why do you think more African Americans do not gravitate to the republican party?

It's all in perception. Most African-American people that I know and talk to think that the Republicans are the exact opposite of what they say they are. They also see and perceive the Republican party as just one for rich, white guys.

Why? Well, because they see a Barack Obama and a Hillary Clinton, running for the dems. But hey, look at the republicans. Rich, old white guy.

Is that perception true. No, not for the most part. But it's there, and until the Republicans start trying to outreach in the black community, that perception will stay.

Oh, I know that there's racism everywhere. It'd be foolish to think not. And it'd also be foolish to think only southern people are racist as well.

seems to me that you've just bought the national press' generalizations about the South and taken it as gospel.

Are we talking south today, or south 1960? South today is fine compared the the rest of the country. South 1960 is a little racist compared to the other parts of the country.

Ok, in general, the southern states, historically, have had their history with racism. Now a days, it's gotten to be where the south is like the rest of the country in that regard.
but that's not what you're Dixiecrats' inherent racism comment implied.

Let me give you my observation of racism in the north and south. Many actions have changed in the past 50 years but I believe feelings have not changed so much.

In the south whites loved the black individual but hated the race. In the north whites loved the black race but hated the individual.

As in all generalizations, there will be many opposite examples. However, that has been my observation.

Looking back, that what I thought it implied.

I don't think so, but we're not going to settle this. I would argue that the South is no more racist than anywhere else in our country, but you would argue differently. I think racism is a very individual issue, thus making it more universally distributed, but that doesn't change anything.

Republicans have started to reach out to African Americans in the last decade. They have been and are much more successful with African Americans who are college educated. The big obstacle for republicans is that the democratic party has a platform of entitlement programs which are geared towards those who are less educated and therefore less successful. This stands in opposition to the republican platform not to mention the very foundation this country was built on.

aren't you 18 years old? what the hell do you know of segregation? The only segregation going on now is self-imposed and it happens everywhere, not just the South.

I don't feel the author meant any racism but I know he was aware it would ruffle feathers but thats what he wanted.

Whatever. The largest single entitlement spending package was one passed with a republican president and republican congress....

I would like to see some numbers. I would say out of the college educated group, there are still a lot more blacks who are dems rather than republicans.

The conventions are proof positive. You can count the number of blacks on one hand you see at the GOP convention every four years.

I would say your most successful blacks are the professional athletes and most of them are democrats

All that being said, the cartoon isn't that big of a deal. It will be forgotten in another day or two. In usual truefan form, I didn't bat an eye at it as it didn't bother me one way or another

how does any of this help your argument that the dems don't pander to a particular race?

I never said that most college educated African Americans were republicans, just that the republicans have been much more successful with this group than uneducated African Americans.

Bush was an economic failure because of his spending, the bill you refer to was part of that problem.
