Obama and that Pesky Constitution

I thought he was being a little glib, sarcasm about being stuck with the Constitution since it means he can't get things past the GOP-controlled Congress.

Trying to blow this up into some kind of claim that Obama is dismissive of the Constitution is weak.

But typical.

Which the voters thought he needed because of the dislike of his policies.

Is that your independent analysis?

I think anyone who watches that and thinks he is actually saying that the Constitution should not apply to him or his proposals is simply being a partisan retard.

Not what I saw when I watched. I saw deflection and excuse making.

Don't you think though that his defense is a little hollow given that the "GOP congress" has only been around for the last 12 months?

yes. but I'm a proponent of the argument that the first 4 yrs of any presidency are spent undoing stuff your predecessor put in place.

Somewhat, yes.

It makes me think back to about 2009 seeing Jon Stewart lose his mind wondering what the President was waiting for after a decisive election win and a loaded congress behind him.

He passed health care overhaul and stimulus, neither easy to do. Now its about the debt limit and entitlement/spending/taxation reform, which is arguably even more difficult in the best of times and certainly is right now given all of the dynamics.

How should I interpret him saying people are frustrated with him because separation of powers has prevented him from doing all the great things he promised?

This nailed it pretty good.

Looking for a goat when there is one in the room.

he's obviously hellbent on making congress the bogeyman he's running against in 2012. It amazes me how he can get away with glossing over the fact that the first two years of his term were spent with the most favorable congress imaginable for a sitting President.

:eek:lol: lauding those 2 is like giving Bush a medal for starting 2 wars

I wish that were true. So far Obama has only partially undone Iraq. We withdrew the troops, but a 20,000-man embassy remains. To put that in perspective, the second largest embassy is in China and has about a couple thousand on staff.

Stimulus spending isn't easy to pass? I recall almost no opposition because Bush did it too.

It doesn't matter what the dynamics are. A Democratic President isn't touching spending with a 100 foot pole prior to an election.

not that I agree with everything Obama wants to do - but I really don't think 4 year terms give presidents enough time to accomplish anything... In our system, anyway.

I think the point is they aren't supposed to accomplish anything. The constitution doesn't really provide a good framework for expansion, and that's what all executives aim to do.
