Obama freezing his staff's pay

The wall thickens and thickens for you doesn't it?

Making it and having it are two different things. I didn't say they weren't doing well, but for the most part, these people, as BPV noted, are underpaid. I stand by my statement. Very few White House staffers are actually millionaires. By that, I mean net worth.

We all you know hate Obama. You've proven it time and time again with your useless, uninformed threads.

Be happy, Joe. Life is good. At least for some of us

oh goodness, pull you head out. please.

his highest advisors and staff members are getting the "freeze." i promise most of these are millionaires or very close to it. if you don't think so, then you are even more naive that i thought.

Not if he hopes to stay an attorney.

how does these people forget to pay their taxes. he'strying to tell us that he forgot, how do you forget 5 or 6 years in a row. i mean maybe one but 5? especially if your're in government.

it's the same with that hack Rangel. that loser didn't pay taxes on the property, he said he forgot and pleaded ignorance, however, he wrote the tax law. what a joke. but you libs want to defend these guys forever.

I really don't know the specific details...but it isn't like he didn't pay taxes for 5 or 6 years, right? Again - I haven't read up a lot on this, so I could be wrong - but aren't the taxes in question self-employment taxes that he incurred while working internationally for the IMF? Yes, he should have paid them. Yes, he should have known he had to pay them. But, it is possible that he missed them considering it was not something that he was used to doing. On the other hand, maybe he knew and thought he wouldn't get caught...I simply don't know. It would seem to me that this could have been a mistake though. I have no vested interest here, just saying...

Maybe someone who has read up on it more can explain more...and perhaps provide some insight...

from what I've heard, TT, the IMF pays extra money to their employees expressly for the purpose of paying their self employment taxes. They make this fact well known when an employment contract is signed and other IMF employees have come forward stating that this is not some obscure rule tucked into an appendix of the IMF's employee manual.

There is simply no way Geithner made an "honest" mistake here.

And he just now paid them back?

he only paid back two of the four years he didn't pay them. also, he only made an effort to pay these back taxes AFTER the vetting process began.

Years of how Bush was so careless and incompetent......but Obama is in and it is cool that a guy that can't remember to pay his taxes should become the Treasury Secretary. Marvelous.

it's stuff like that the sheeple will gush all over. you think hussein O gives them raises 2x a year. i mean, i guess it's feel good stuff. he's going save a few percent on raises for a small few, but will end up spending billions on larger government.

hey what do you want to bet that when he unfreezes the raises, i bet he makes the raises retroactive.
you cannot get any bigger goverment than bush

Except you have no proof that Obama will lead to big government.

universal health care?

massive infrastructure "improvement"?

his "volunteer" corps?

Obama's policies are nothing but big government. He has no intention of allowing capitalism to flourish. He will need the votes in 2012 and the only way he can get them is by creating a few million more people dependent on the federal government.

Like I say, it certainly bothers me. I would give him the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake, but in that case he's an inattentive doofus and not really the guy I want running the Treasury.

I guess I could get past it, but its an issue, I agree.

Correct, they are either idiots or hypocrites guilty of breaking the rules to benefit themselves. Either way they are not the kind of people we need representing us at this time.

If Obama wanted to be truely noble, he would freeze his staffer's government pay, and pay them with his book royalties.

Just my take.... they're living in a very expensive city.

Could that possibly be illegal? Restrictions in government service never cease to amaze me...just wondering if that one is not allowed...
