I am 99.9% confident it is illegal. The staffers aren't working for Obama himself but the offiice of the POTUS and the federal government, executive branch.

once again, they just took office, why should an annual review already be coming up? If no one is wanting a raise etc, why the complaining about the freeze?

My guess is that in federal service, the senior staff was hired in at a set pay grade, some government service grade. Each year, there are raises that will apply to each grade - regardless of when you take that job. It is the going rate for your GS grade (there is a little wiggle room within each for how much you are paid...but it's a basic range). Some time this year, all of those people would be rolled up to the new pay level for that GS level considering a set cost of living raise. Obama is basically saying that raise will not happen this year for those making over 100,000.

And, who is complaining about it? I've only heard joevol complain.

Sorry..wasn't clear there...that's what I meant by senior staff..the White House Senior Staff. I'm just saying that they are hired it at a GS level and they have to be paid according to that level (and the pay raises they get), unless Obama overrides that....which he did. It may apply to all federal employees making over 100,000 - but that isn't how I understood it either...just senior WH staff.

My point was just that if raises are effective in February and you are hired in March, then you get paid that new rate - not less than the others are making at the same GS level. So, if you're hired in January, then you would likewise receive the pay increase in February.

yah, honestly to me it just seems like a show type thing. most of the people on obamas senior staff have so much money that a small raise isnt anything.. look at hilldog,,

Obama's new lobbying rules will not only ban aides from trying to influence the administration when they leave his staff. Those already hired will be banned from working on matters they have previously lobbied on, or to approach agencies that they once targeted

Well it took Obama 2 days to break one of his own rules. William Lynn gets a pass. He is second in command at the Pentagon and senior lobbyist for Raytheon. The Halliburton freaks going to come out now?

I stopped watching Power Rangers during the Clinton administration. I'm not gonna say I followed politics during my pre-pubescent years, but I paid attention every time the president came on TV.
