I did a double take when I saw the story posted by TPM.

I seem to remember Sarah Palin being savaged by the media not too long ago for saying something about Paul Revere that wasn't commonly known but that turned out to be true.

This, of course, is the opposite. I'm sure the gang on MSNBC will host a round table about how stupid Obama is.

As far as muddled historic references go, Obama’s hardly the first presidential candidate to screw things up on the trail. But for an address specifically going after his opponents for their ignorance, it’s probably not great to have a “citation needed” banner on top of his speech.

Obama makes an incorrect reference to a fairly obscure president and it's the same as Palin's mistake with Paul Revere, a household name?

To be fair, Palin is beyond stupid.

Unless you count making un-Godly money off of her sycophants.

I thought it was silly how much people railed Palin for that mistake... however, her intent was different than BO's. Who ever said politicians needed to be historically astute?

Hang on while I check my personal copy of the Constitution on this.

It's in English, you know.

I didn't even get that far in the article. My apologies. Point still stands, though. Palin has far more gaffes than Obama, and that's a lot.

The 57 state thing has to be worth at least 5 gaffes.

Obamisms:

57 States

Mispronunciation of "corpsman"

Called Hawai'i "Asia"

"The Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries."

attempting to make the case for government-run healthcare, while simultaneously undercutting his own argument, - "UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? It's the Post Office that's always having problems."

"The reforms we seek would bring greater competition, choice, savings and inefficiencies to our health care system."

"It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian, wheeling and dealing."

"No, no. I have been practicing...I bowled a 129. It's like -- it was like Special Olympics, or something."

"I'm here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis." --speaking via satellite to the Democratic National Convention, while in Kansas City, Missouri

"Let me introduce to you the next President -- the next Vice President of the United States of America, Joe Biden."

"How's it going, Sunshine?" --campaigning in Sunrise, Florida

"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."

"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed." --on a Kansas tornado that killed 12 people

And there's plenty more.

Thread falls sort of flat. I think even those posting in it probably secretly think most of these from Obama are just simple flubs, as opposed to actual ignorance, as displayed by Palin.

And Santorum just made a mistake. He probably thought there was a law on English only. And that Puerto Rico is a country, not a territory. Oh well, live and learn. The bigger mistake of course was offending Hispanics across the country by even raising the issue.

Between Romney knowing NASCAR team owners, his wife's Cadillacs, and Santorum wanting all the Hispanics to learn got dang English, this is getting really entertaining.

the comments in the OP show ignorance. Sure some can be written off as flubs (a courtesy never given to the previous Pres) but he mangled history to insult a group of people. It's either ignorance of the actual history or indifference since no one calls him out on anything anymore

Bush was special because his flubs somehow always seemed to be deliciously ironic.

You would think graduates of Harvard and Yale would sound a bit more educated.

yet this wasn't a flub. It was a purposeful mangling of history to insult the GOP or was simply ignorance

You would think graduates of Harvard and Yale would sound a bit more educated.

proof that not all should be there

Relative to what the GOP is offering up, Obama sounds very intelligent.

Obama sounds more and more like a guy with an associates degree rather than a highly educated man.
