Haven't had any reported cases of rampant pedophilia in my church. Haven't sold indulgences for forgiveness of sin either. There are good and bad in every group. The only thing is most other groups don't have over a thousand years of documented history.

The primary reason for the rift between science and religion is the catholic church didnt want to lose control power or the masses.

The saddest thing is that despite attempted defenses, the Catholic Church has earned this reputation. They can't blame any biases against them. It's not some smear campaign. It's their own fault, and they must own that.

I personally know 2 women and a man who were sexually assualted at Baptist camp retreats by counsleors when they were between the ages of 9-13. I went to Catholic school for 12 years and never heard one story of someone being touched, not even a rumor.

The reason why priests are not allowed to marry, is because they are married to the Church. Its their job. If you want to get married, dont become a priest. Pretty simple.

The Protestant Church is not exempt from its bad deeds, so keep throwing stones in glass houses

Actually it was academia that set the church against scientific advancement in the beginning because it didn't fit what they were teaching in the universities, so they appealed to the state, which at the time was heavily influenced by the church to squelch scientific discovery.

How can someone be "married" to the Church?

Do you believe if the Catholic Church allowed it's priests to marry that the number of alleged pedophilia cases would decrease in the future?

Pope Benedict has been much more proactive on the issue.

Pedophilia is a world wide issue not contained to just the CC. Its just the CC is held to a higher standard than any other organization in the world.

Its called a "Sacrament". Getting married is a "sacrament". You are exchanging vows to bond both man and wife. Becoming a priest is exchanging vows between a man and the church.

And no I dont think allowing marriage would do anything to fix the problem. The devil will do his work regardless of any rule changes

1st bold- I said MY church, not denomination. I am not Baptist.

2nd bold- I said in another post there are good and bad in everything. Way to nit-pick. BTW, it is not a very good defense of one's position, beliefs, religion, etc. to claim everyone else does it, too.

This seems to be a sensitive subject for you. Sorry, but the truth is the truth. 'Defending the faith' so to speak is what allowed the priest scandal to grow and grow and grow. If it would have been dealt with early on instead of denying, paying off, lying to save face there would have been much less damage to the Catholic Church.

In the old days, no doubt. In an interesting twist of fate, they are actually one of the best sects of mainstream religion when it comes to science in modern times. I give them props.
