Obama picks Biden

Include me in the "some" group. This is a big pick-up for Obama and with the exception of Bill Richardson who would have been better? I knew the smear campaign would begin on here the moment Obama picked someone and it didn't matter who he picked, that person would immediately become "the worst choice". I look forward to the VP debates as Biden as one of the best (if not the best) debater the dems have.

I don't think it's a "smear" to point out the obvious. Joe Biden is very experienced, very intelligent and very smug. His arrogance is a turn off for a lot of people, and some people still remember him lifting speeches without giving credit the first time he ran for President.

I'm happy for Biden though. It's not everyday he gets to work with a " clean and articulate" black man. :eek:k:

John McCain and Mitt Romney or arrogant and very smug. They are a turn off to a lot of people so I guess that cancels out any smugness or arrogance from Biden. It's funny how preception changes on who is smug based on weather or not you agree with what the person is saying. It's like calling Obama an elitest while John McCain can't figure out how many houses he owns.

I think John McCain has the personality of a doorknob, so don't pass me off as some party hack. It's a well known fact that Joe Biden is perceived almost universally as extremely arrogant. I'm not breaking new ground here.

That's opinion material, not fact material. Please show me where I passed you off as a party hack. I was making a point that based on what people want to hear will affect who they think is smug. These people have strong opinions about what they believe in so of course if you believe differently it's going to come off that way. I was using McCain and Romney as a point of who I think appears to be smug, nothing to do with who you support.

They're all a little arrogant. You have to be to run for Prez/Veep.

Biden's arrogance is just a little more evident.

So it's not a fact that a ton of people find Joe Biden arrogant?

It might be a fact that the opinion of a ton of people is that Joe Biden is arrogant but not a fact that Joe Biden is arrogant.

Say that three times as fast as you can. :)

From my experience of being around the man's politics in MA...I would say this is a fair description.

With that said, I'm surprised that I don't like him more...I think that is what I like so much about Biden...

It really doesn't matter whether his arrogance can be proven fact.

If the masses perceive him as arrogant...well, then, he's arrogant.

True. But...what if half the voting population feels the same way about John McCain and Mitt Romney (assuming he's the pick)? I think these people (on both sides) are very confident and passionate in what they stand for so when they start debating or ranting about an issue and they have a totally different outlook than the viewer then they appear smug and arrogant. I'm sure many of you think I'm a smug and arrogant jerk. :)

I think Biden is a good pick for Obama. I think Obama would have picked up more votes if he picked Hillary, but I can understand why Obama wouldn't want to be around Hillary all the time.

All I can speak to is my own perception and I find Biden to be a blow hard. Watch his performance on the Judiciary committee when reviewing Roberts or Alito. He doesn't ask questions - he states his opinion without every getting to a question. He doesn't want to know about the nominee - he's already formed his opinion.

Ask Dunkin Donut owners if they're going to vote for him : )

:) Not only is he "clean and articulate", this time a year ago Biden said he was not ready to be president.

It's going to be interesting to see how the public responds. On one hand, the Veep picks should be complimentary but taking on Biden is an implicit acknowledgment that BO is weak on foreign policy experience. Likewise, taking on Mitt the Stiff will be an implicit acknowledgment that the economy isn't McCain's strength.

Let the spin begin.

I like this though. I find it naive to think a President can have great knowledge in all areas. It's just not realistic. It's important to know your strengths and more important to know your weaknesses. If you can properly compensate for those weaknesses to strengthen the ticket, then I'm all in favor.

Bingo. That goes for Obama and McCain. I respect either guy more for knowing their weakness and addressing it rather than dragging the country through it for 4 years not knowing how to handle a certain area.

I heard that Obama had already given up efforts to win Tennessee anyway. He found out that some Republicans had added the letter 'G' to all of his campaign signs, changing them from "OBAMA" to "GO 'BAMA."
