Obama picks Biden

All I can speak to is my own perception and I find Biden to be a blow hard. Watch his performance on the Judiciary committee when reviewing Roberts or Alito. He doesn't ask questions - he states his opinion without every getting to a question. He doesn't want to know about the nominee - he's already formed his opinion.

Ask Dunkin Donut owners if they're going to vote for him : )

Agree totally, should be very interesting to see the ads coming out using Biden's "opinions" on Obabma from last year.

IMO not a great choice.

Biden has been one of the most liberal members of Congress and has the voting record to prove it. There are probably a couple hundred soundbites from his early days in Congress that make him sound and look terrible.

His role as this well-spoken, elder statesmen in the Democratic Party is relatively new. He's improved a lot from his early years as a senator.

Just a few of those comments over the years as you mentioned. Jim Geraghty on Joe Biden vs. Barack Obama on National Review Online

Obama was forced to pick a older person with "foreign policy savy" to compensate for his shortcomings. I personally thought he would have been better served picking Sam Nunn.

Umm, you've Obama's VP saying he's not reading and basically talking up McCain. McCain and Romney are having an adult debate, not even close.

Since Mitt and McCain loved each other so much during the primary, I'm sure that will make the perfect counterpart ticket.

Way too much is made over previously stated remarks Biden made in reference to Obama.

TennNC, you have to admit this had to be somewhat of a disappointment. When the dust settles a Hillary(for pres) and Obama ticket would have been much more attractive right now.

The R's are going to have a field day with Biden I would imagine. The debates should be interesting; I wonder if Romney will even get a word in. :)

I swear I do not know how the democrats are going to lose another election that they should have easily have won.

Biden is a terrible choice for a gazillion reasons.

For the life of me I cannot imagine why he didn't choose Bill Richardson.

1) Of course they have. In modern day politics, primary opponents are almost as vicious as are general election ones. They bash each other, then praise each other. That's how it works.

2) When the final list appeared, I thought Biden would be the best choice. I think he'll turn out to be the right guy. HRC would've been a big disappointment to me, and a potential disaster down the line. I can't imagine her boosting Obama - Biden will be more comfortable in that role. I think he and Obama have much better chemistry.

An African-American and a Hispanic on one ticket? Hell, the outcome of the election would be McGovern-esque

On #1 I agree. The only downside for Obama is that Biden's criticisms went to the heart of the issue for many undecideds - lack of experience/readiness.

On#2 I'm not sure if Biden was the right guy or not. I personally don't like him but I'm not who they are trying to convince.

I do agree about the chemistry issue. Picking HRC would have been a deal with the devil and a leadership disaster for everyone.

No it is all about balance.....

Obama's theme is change.... Biden does not represent change...... Biden represents the establishment of the liberal wing of the democratic party.

Richardson would have brought balance to Obama.

How's Richardson less entrenched than Biden? B/c Biden's been in the Senate a long time doesn't mean he's part of the power base.

Also, Obama's doing at least as well with Hispanic voters as Kerry did. He needs electoral help with working-class whites and Catholics, and Biden helps this.
