The information that started the following of the courier that led them to OBL was obtained 4 years ago by water boarding, apparently. Leon Panetta didn't outright say that the info came from water boarding, just that it was used during the time that the information was received.

On the role of interrogation: *BRIAN WILLIAMS: Can you confirm that it was as a result of water boarding that we learned what we needed to learn to go after Bin Laden?
*LEON PANETTA: Brian, in the intelligence business you work from a lot of sources of information and that was true here… It's a little difficult to say it was due just to one source of information that we got… I think some of the detainees clearly were, you know, they used these enhanced interrogation techniques against some of these detainees. But I'm also saying that, you know, the debate about whether we would have gotten the same information through other approaches I think is always going to be an open question.
*BRIAN WILLIAMS: So finer point, one final time, enhanced interrogation techniques -- which has always been kind of a handy euphemism in these post-9/11 years -- that includes water boarding?

I don't really care if they torture KSM or Bin Laden. Not the liberal thing to say, but I'm not very liberal on matters of punishing terrorists.

I just think crediting Bush Era waterboarding for Osama's head shot is revisionist. Would expect nothing less, though.

The operation was McChrystal's boys and the intel was a massive effort across many years and numerous govt agencies.

Ignoring the waterboarding is equally as silly as fully crediting it.

One thing that crossed my mind today was how ridiculously faulty of an error it was by obl to use the same courier for that long.
