Why in the world would he want to cut back our military right now? North Korea, Iran and China are emerging as serious threats, if they havent been so already. And his plan? To cut back the most advanced military weapon we have? That being the aircraft carrier.

Obama, go play in the highway.

because there's a point of diminishing returns... cut it in half, we're still just as safe

i've never got attacked by a tiger. that doesn't mean i have a 100% full proof way to prevent tiger attacks.

Logically, though, you have to consider that a conventional invasion of the US would be suicide for any army. We're all armed, for chrissakes.

true. a conventional invasion. taht doesn't stop nuclear attack or a bombing campaign considering we would now have zero air force.

A nuclear attack probably wouldn't come via aircraft, but regardless, what do you mean when you say we'd have no air force? Admittedly, I jumped into the middle of this but wasn't the OP talking about the cutting back of aircraft carriers? I've been fairly busy the last few days and I hadn't heard this, btw. Was there a story about it?

i'm assuming our military budget gets cut by 50% like our buddy cash wants them to do.

Ludicrous. Armed populace doesn't work any more. Presumably, you are a bit brighter than cash and understand that repelling an invasion is the last resort use or our military, but tgat it has enormous and numerous strategic objectives around the world.

Evenly matched in military terms is a bad idea. Anything but overwhelmig superiority is a bad idea when you have an alternative. Don't fall into the stupid argument about relative expenditures. We allow the other shatheads to freeload, but end up the only one capable of self determination. Everyone else needs our approval.

I'm not talking about the overall mission of our armed forces. All I said was that given the fact that the populace of the US is by and large armed, it would be suicide to try and launch a land invasion of the US. The military would certainly do what it does, but the harassment from a few million really pissed off people with guns would make any foreign army hesitant, to say the least. Could it be done? Perhaps at a huge cost.

Populace against modern armor and weaponry would be an absolute joke.

You do know that Red Dawn was a pipe dream, no?

Either way, several invader types over the past millenium have proven that it's a difficult strategy and likely a long term loser. Our issues now are about protecting our economic and military interests abroad so that we can avoid fighting at home.

I dunno. I feel like me and my revolver would do pretty well against a trained unit of soldiers carrying maching guns.
