First of all my hat goes off to these ladies they played their heart out.

I am so tired of these commentators, especially Carolyn Peck, criticizing the players about dribbling and passing without a purpose and one on one play. They are doing it because they have little to no sets to run! That's on Holly! When the game gets into a half-court game, the Lady Vols struggles. You can tell this team rarely practices Offense as a unit. The guards should be able to take a dribble hand off and knock down short jumpers consistently. Offense has a lot to do with spacing and movement and it seems like this staff have no clue. The SEC has to be the worst conference when it comes to offense because I've seen High School teams run better offenses than some of these SEC teams. I doubt Holly gets fired, so more than likely she'll be back next season. She has to install an offense this off-season or she'll never make it to a Final Four. This is not the 1980s, women's basketball has advance and talent plus athleticism alone will only get you so far. Is there anyway the fans can reach out to the staff? My goodness, I just don't understand why Holly has done nothing to improve this offense. This game gave me flashes of the Elite 8 last season. We have the talent, but coaching and no offense is keeping this program back from being amongst the Elite.

The commentators remarks are implying it's on the coach. Holly will not find an offense in the off-season. We will lose more games next season and so on and so forth until she is fired or able to recruit players that fit into her "system" -- whatever that is.

Two more games. If we stay in ND's bracket, Texas should give us the boot before the Sweet 16.

what would you tell her that Coach Pat Summitt hasn't all ready ? :hi:

I wouldn't tell her anything. I'll ask her what kind of Offense Tennessee runs? Why does this team struggles in the half-court? What are her plans to address these offensive issues? Players need to get in the gym is not a valid answer. Holly needs to be ask tough question. All of Tennessee affiliated reporters or media always protect Holly. They never ask her questions the fans want to know. I bet if anyone ask her what offense does Tennessee runs, she'll struggle to answer.

I agree with your post, VOL270. Holly is coaching as she was trained to coach: Play lockdown defense as a team effort. Play individual effort on offense. This was the great CPS's style and she made it work to the tune of over a thousand wins and 8 national championships. However, Holly is not CPS. Holly needs to develop her own style of coaching on offense.

What are her plans to address the offensive issues? She has NO PLANS! You think this is a new problem?

I would ask Holly why she wants to masquerade as a coach and ruin the legacy of a once storied program? I would ask her why she insist on heading a program when she can't coach or recruit? I would ask, don't you think the fan base, Pat and the program deserve better than you are giving? The last question would be, Do you have an ounce of shame for the job you are not doing?

That's my point. I don't understand how the media and reporters never ask her tough questions. If I was a reporter at a post game presser, these are a few questions I'd ask. Holly, why do you think your team struggles in the half-court, they look confuse as to what to do with the ball? Many Lady Vols' fans are saying Tennessee has no offensive identity, what are your thoughts on that? Many teams no Tennessee priority is to get the ball inside, what are other ways you would like to see your team attack offensively? There's a lot of standing around and one on one play, what offense is your team suppose to be running? Ask her tough questions! This offense needs to be address!

I've got news for you...Pat Summitt wouldn't be winning now with that strategy either. The game has left this program in the 1990s.

I agree. We saw that the results Summitt's last season when the Lady Vols went to Notre Dame and got schooled and beat like a drum. Tennessee's offense is to heavily dependent on the star of the team. Example, Holdsclaw, Catching, Parker, Harrison and so on. The talent has spreaded throughout WCBB. Tennessee does not get all the best players anymore. UConn will be back down to reality next season. It's about Coaching.

To be fair I don't think Pat was totally there, mentally, in the last season or two. There were just too many strange things going on in some of the games wrt coaching. But in general I agree. And we haven't had a dominant like Parker since Parker... until, strangely enough, this year. But something went badly wrong.

Holly thinks the offense is good. The reason we lose is we quick shoot the basketball and don't make shots. That is what Holly says every press conference. We didn't make shots and we shoot to quickly. She thinks her offense is great and 13 losses later were still not making those shots.

"Yes, Dan we got good looks. The shots just didn't fall" "If I knew what was wrong, I'd fix it"

Who sees the next Candace Parker getting recruited by the Lady Vols? Raise your hand and step forward please.

Who thinks if the Vols were lucky enough to snag the next Candace Parker that Holly wouldn't sub her out after her first dunk on UConn?

But Pat won back to back titles in 2007 and 2008 with her philosophy.

Can you spell C-a-n-d-a-c-e P-a-r-k-e-r?

WVU05UT09 has it right. It's not just the Lady Vols either it's the SEC in general

If the SEC offensive schemes weren't being left in the dust post 90's, explain why Pat brought in the Bid East's Harry Paretta as an offensive consultant? The thought was great but the coach choice was poor.

Harry Paretta's teams dribbled around the perimeter to run down the shot clock and threw up a hail mary. But he always had fairly good 3 ballers and they won some games including beating UConn once in a while.

On second thought maybe that was the consultant selection process?

Holly always says the first thing to winning is a strong defense. She also insists on getting the ball down low for easy baskets. This is all fine and good, but she keeps her only consistent 3 point shooter on the bench because of over emphasis on defense.

It is good to get easy buckets down low, but the lack of outside shooters keeps opponents double and triple teaming the bigs. This is the major reason the team turns the ball over so much. A 3 point shooter is needed to loosen up the inside, but she is on the bench because of the emphasis on defense. Keep doing the same thing and the result is the same.

If Holly says that, she has it backwards. I don't know what today's young coaches say, but a couple of generations ago the top coaches said that good defense is what sets good offensive teams apart from one another. But the good offense comes first.

I agree re the lack of outside shooting. Yesterday's loss is a win if the guards shoot better than the 22% they shot and the team makes its free throws.

I disagree re Dunbar. She cannot create her own shot and cannot guard anyone in man defense. She would have been totally overmatched in yesterday's game.
