Offensive Line...Over rated

And I said that the line was I-formation. I never said we had I-formation personnel. Other than that, nice rant.

No rant just trying to give factual information. I would like to see factual information that we have an I formation OLine when they have never really played in an I formation.

5 can't block 7 plus at times .. Teams are daring us to pass. If we were and "I-formation" team it would possibly be worse because the defense wouldn't have to account for multiple Wr's...

When you have a QB and receivers that cannot routinely threaten anything other than wet paper you will have difficulty running the ball. Our receivers and QB play have been our opponents biggest defensive weapon to date. AP can't stop a good QB from scoring touchdowns but we sure did in the second half. Yes it was second string but our 1st string is the equivalent in experience to many SEC teams second strings, at least in the skill positions.

I believe our o-line could do more in aggressiveness but imo the main reason they don't look more stellar is the supporting cast. They are easily our best and most consistent unit on the field every game, it's hard to knock them when so many other areas are lacking.

They aren't facing more than 7, though.

Our Oline is good, not great, but would look Great if Gurley or De anthony Thomas were in the backfield along with Mariota behind center.

The pure lack if football knowledge of some people on here amazes me. We have a great line but when you cannot pass what so ever there will be a struggling running game. Sure with spread it's a bit more wide open but when they can just lock up and man and blitz you to death and have the safeties play up bc until we prove we can move the ball through the air no one will respect the pass.

Also we have two sub par backs, not exactly stellar options either. Let Worley get better and see how they progress as a whole unit

The only reason we cant run block is because we have 0% passing game, which means teams stack the box for the run. Easy to see for some people. Just because they were nicknamed "best in the SEC" doesnt mean they can block a team defending the run 7 or 8 in the box every play. Give these guys a little more credit.

Butch should have kept Sam Pittman.

The thing is, it wasn't like they were really tearing it up under Pittman. They were a throw first team last year and that played to their strengths. They still struggled to run the ball when it really came down to it. This O-line has never dominated the line of scrimmage like a top quality O-line should.

That said, I thought they should have kept Pittman simply because they were showing improvement under him and the continuity would have probably benefited the players and he probably would have helped us keep our lone significant O-line commit for this last class (who went with him to Arkansas instead).

Exactly. We threw a lot last year and still couldn't run the ball.
