With Sears as the only returning lineman with real play expierience, does he start at right tackle for the running game, or at left tackle to protect Ainge? The rest of the line will be made up of underclassmen with little or no game expierience. With the line being the primary reason the chains move, and with a new OL coach, what's to be expected?

Our starting OL will be pretty good, but our backups will have to gain alot of experience quickly.

They have all lost weight, especially Sears, I think at least 10-15 lbs, so the expectation is they are quicker and in better shape. That should help. I think UT will have 5 good starters, with not a lot of depth.

Actually the guys coming back did get to play a fair amount due to injuries and un-inspired play, right? :dunno:

If they're simply in good shape, that would be tremendous progress.

I never understood the concept of going more to zone blocking schemes, yet having linemen who couldn't move their feet??

I know this will come as a shock, but I wish Fulmer would take over the offensive line himself. That is something he was undisputedly good at handling.

Dan4, I'm going to buy some 'Phins season tickets. How close do you think Saban has them to contending?

With Daute Culpepper and Joey Harrington at QB I think this year is going to be good. Both QB's are game tested, one coming off injury physically the othe coming off an ego injury. Coach Saban I think is a breath of fresh air for both. Daunte from the time he went in was a little brother to the Vikings recievers and didnt runn the offense as a colonel but was an underling to Moss and Carter. In coach Saban it'll be the other way around, This will be Daunte's team....with Joey as a capable back up. Ronnie Brown returns as the feature back in the absense of Ricky the neveready battery....Ronnie is solid and with a year of play under his belt I think he'll be a very solid 4.5 ypc back. I could go down the list of player by player but the point is I think the offense will be vastly improved....on the other hand the defense is showing some age. They won their last 6 games going 9-7 and I see them going 11-5 this year, maybe better.

You are correct sir, I am shocked with your comment, simply because I agree in a sense. Coach should be in control of the O line development and last year the line play was a major factor in the poor season. That leads me to think he let the control of the team get away from him. Hopefully he realizes that and, like I have stated before, leadership and disclipine will become the new mantra for the team. Be careful with the usage of the word "undisputedly". Maybe you really are a Volunteer fan....

The fact that he has not is yet another reason to question his overall understanding of his role as a head coach and his unwillingness to change. When pressed CPF makes excuses as to why he cannot return to coaching the OL, but IMO it all adds up to risk vs. reward. If they perform well he can take credit....but if they don't who does he have to blame?

How many HEAD coaches do you know "coach offensive line".

It's not his job to do that, it's his job to hire the right guy to do that.

I agree, Spurrier should hire an offensive coordinator. That is genious.

Did I say "How many head coaches call the plays, making decisions on which plays his team runs"?

Or did I say, how many head coaches "coach offensive line".

Jesus, it's in black and white. Stop changing the meaning of words to fit your arguement. That's rediculous.

Coaching offensive line should take a LOT of weekly preparation. A LOT of doing things that a head football coach just doesn't have the time for. I swear to all that is holy, that if Fulmer coached offensive linemen, the same group of you would be saying he is underperforming because he is too selfish and stubborn to allow someone else to coach the offensive line, and he is overworked.

He CAN'T WIN with you people!!

Steve Spurrier
Jeff Tedford
Mike Leach

What do they have in common they are all:

Head coaches

Position coaches: all coach QBs. I would guess that this takes as much prep time and attention to detail as any other position coach on the field

None would dare leave their coaching specialty to someone who couldn't coach as well as they can

They all produce unbelievable offensive numbers due to their diligence with QBs

They all coach teams that can beat Vanderbilt

CPF simply needs to step up. If you listen to the media and 90% of the fans they have been practically begging for him to return to doing what he does best. To say that a head football coach doesn't have time to be a position coach is a cop out plain and simple.

If it takes Fulmer coaching O-line in order to "fix" our offense then he needs to do it, or at least divert more of his time and attention to it. If it takes peeing on a spark plug to "fix" it then that's what he needs to do. I just wish Fall would hurry up and get here so we can find out if they have "fixed" it.

I think working around all those bulls has you fixated on "fixing" Vman.
