Offensive Strategy Killing Guards Creativity

Sorry, Tyler I love you. But, we are the Lady Vols, we should always have a woman head coach. Ijs. If we hire a men's coach, then we should be called the Vols remove, the "Lady" from the Vols just my 2 cents. Next, HC will be Kyra Elzy, handpicked by Sumittt and Holly. And Holly will leave on her own terms.

Is Offensive strategy kiling guards creativity? Nope our poor guard play (no guard has been able to embrace the big stage, no guard has seize the moment like a Bobbitt) players standing around on offense is killing our offensive strategy, and has been doing so since... No guard has been able to embrace the expectations, Cooper is starting off the right way...

Who gives a damn who coaches the Lady Vols as long as they win?

Mulkey's post-season record is EXACTLY the same as Holly's (one Sweet Sixteen and two Elite Eights). Baylor won by 3 points against the number 19 team in the country Thursday night; Baylor in no way, shape, or form looked like world-beaters. And yet you want Mulkey to be your coach? LOL

The truth is, with a fan based comprised largely of spoiled, whiny, entitled dumbasses, no coach in his or her right mind would agree to come here and take the place of a coach who, in her first three years, has one of the best winning percentages in the entire women's game.

Tell me, what reason does UT have to replace Holly? Her teams have won four times as many games as they have lost, she has consistently gotten her injury-laden teams well-into the NCAA tournament every year that she has been coach, and this year has started out 3-0. Explain to me how they would justify replacing her.

I see you're still at it with your shtick. Mulkey has two rings, so I don't know how you had the gumption to try and pass off that first paragraph as any kind of fact.

As for the last paragraph, I don't worry about advocating firings, as that usually works itself out. However, Warlick's accomplishments are pretty unimpressive considering the type of resources she has available to her. Making it "well into the NCAA tournament" doesn't include never making the Final Four, especially for one of the top two programs in a sport that is very top heavy and allows the Lady Vols to waltz into the Sweet 16 (And Elite 8 most years) every year without much resistance.

She's, clearly, underachieved relative to the capabilities of her teams and program thus far in her career and we should go in another direction, if she can't achieve greater success.

And there is the rub. There are clearly two defined segments of the Lady Vol fan base. There are fans who love Tennessee most likely because they either went to school there or they are from Tennessee. As a little boy I fell in love with Peyton Manning and therefore loved everything Tennessee. Was fortunate enough to later be accepted to graduate school there and become an alum. It doesn't matter who is coaching or where they come from they just want success. They want Big Orange to win. They love Pat Summitt but they love Tennessee more. Had she got her coaching start at Kentucky, these people would still be Tennessee fans today, they just might follow the womens basketball program less because it wouldn't have been as successful in her absence.

The second group are individuals, most likely women, who rightfully view Pat Summitt as an iconic leader in womens athletics and the fight for womens equality in society. They have less a love of UT and more so a love for anything and everything that touched Pat Summitt including her coaches, former coaches, and former players. If Pat had started her career at Kentucky they would be UK fans today. Individuals in this group believe the program and any and all decisions about its future belong to Pat Summitt loyalists not necessarily the University of Tennessee.

Much like different segments of a political party, these two distinct groups have been able to co-exist. What Holly does with this group of players will determine how much longer they are able to co-exist. The strains are starting to show.

The question becomes is it the players or the coaching? Maybe we need to recruit better players. Is there such a thing as a 6 star with a high IQ?

These are all guards Holly recruited. Te'a isn't truly being allowed to play her game because she is being told to get in inside where as inside when she has always drove to the basket and dished it to her post players (so has diamond) and MeMe has also not been given the same chances as the others (Middleton, Reynolds, Carter) to show what she can truly do, I believe if given the chance you will see why people are so high on both her and Te'a. I think they need to start next to each other because of their fondness of one another and on court chemistry

You really think Holly has told Cooper don't play your game. We are all seeing Cooper and Reynolds not playing their game, with their size they should lick their chops when they see other guards on them, both have sweet shots around the basket.

Cooper jacking up threes is not her game, she uses her athleticism to get to the rim to get herself and our other players easier shots.

Yes, she did recruits these guards and sometimes it is a hit or miss.

Yes, I can see both and Meme and Cooper getting more minutes, or starting as long as they both play their game, getting to the rim, getting to the paint, attacking off the dribble, that's why I was glad we recruited them, they can make the defense shift, be out of rotation, but if they start standing around and jacking up threes, we know they have bought into the current Lady Vols guard play.

Once Diamond becomes the best player on court and performing like it, I can see things changing..

After again watching the last two games our problems come down to one thing and that is were not making perimeter shots. Were so bad that some players have become afraid to take one and as a result this has caused a lot of bad turnovers trying to get the ball inside when there is nothing there.
6 for 36 versus Syracuse and just slightly better last night. Perimeter players were 13 of 38.

My theory is we need Diamond to take over. She is the best at getting the ball to the bigs and she is the one who will eventually be the person making the outside shots.

Well I must be a member of both of your groups...dual citizenship:). The bolded part I believe you are just wrong, never got that impression. IMO the rest of your assessment is correct.

This forum has lost a lot of its civility and comraderie since Pat retired. Don't know why for sure; I truly think the trolls and self-proclaimed "Vols", who are really just Lady Vol bashers, are mostly responsible, but then we let them affect us. Maybe Pat's classy behavior kept us in line too:pat:.

I think one of our first moves should be a new asst coach for the guards. Not to teach them HOW to shoot, but to help them with WHEN, and WHERE, and WHY to shoot within the flow of the offense, and ditto for getting to the rim. We have a collection of very talented guards but most of the time they look like they don't have any clue as to what they ought to do on offense.

And for Pete's sake, would you guys PLEASE stop quoting Ivy's posts? It doesn't i any good to put her on ignore if you repost everything she says. PLEASE!

I don't take a position on the new coach move, but I like how you worded what they should do.

I'm just not sure Holly values these things enough to devote proper time teaching them.

Pound the rock inside!!! Damn it...pound the rock inside!!!! Diamond Deshields is great passing the ball...but even SHE tried to force several balls inside tonight that had ZERO chance of success...thank you coaching staff for turning one of the most creative players in the game into a robot! And if Kortney Dunbar didn't need to see the floor as a zone buster tonight...she'll never be needed...just a waste of the most talented 3 point shooter on the team...thank you coaching staff...you are brilliant beyond your years! 19 turnovers...but enough defense was played to overcome ineptitude...holding Syracuse to 31.8 per cent shooting. Jazmine Jones had a good game...only turned the ball over when she was dribbling the ball on the perimeter...a problem the coaches have apparently never noticed! Holly said they haven't spent enough time shooting from outside the circle in practice...would be a damn good time to start!

I agree 1000000000000% with you and it was demonstrated once again in the Chattanooga game......

Hey Alex! Great to see you're still kicking! The mods on this site seem to be more tolerant of honest opinions and less inclined to turn you over to Jahadi John for having a different opinion on all issues relating to Tennessee. I feel like a stray who maybe found a home...lol

Alex!
Don!

Good to see you.

This site is only one I have found that has anything worthwhile on Lady Vols other than the one with Maria. Some posters here actually follow the Lady Vols and have decent knowledge about basketball and the team.
