Offensive Tackle & OL recruiting

I may be the bad guy saying this but I believe hall will be recruited over this class don't have the ability to take him with the injury to much risk

I don't think Hall will lose his scholarship because of the injury, but I'm not really factoring him into our future at OT until at least 2017 now (if ever).

Stewart, Jones, Hall, Boulware so far.

If they can get Richmond or Sweet I think they will try.

4 in a class is not that bad. Especially if 3 of the 4 could possibly end up at OT.

This plus Jackson. We have no idea where he will play though.

Sweet who is currently committed to UNC looks like he could be leaning towards the Gators more so than UT now. We supposedly will get an official visit from him though.

Richmond is committed to Ole Miss. He is actively recruiting for them BUT he does sometimes say he is leaving his options open till NSD. If any team can sway him it would be UT but Ole Miss has done a good job recruiting the family. Richmond and his family will be on campus this weekend for an extended unofficial visit and should be back for an official before NSD.

Allen is committed to UGA but visited recently. He is supposedly still committed to UGA but we made up ground and he finds the depth chart very appealing at UT.

So we have a foot in the door with several recruits and will see how it shakes out.

Normally I would say 4 is plenty but our deficiencies on the OL are glaring. How many commitments do we have now? 25 or 26? I'm happy we got a good CB but OL should be priority number 1 right now. Out of 26 we should have at least 6 or 7 o- lineman. Dooley ignored OL recruiting and look at where we are now. Games are won in the trenches.
Then you run into deficiencies in other areas. Quick fixes always bite you in the butt. It's going to take a little time for the linemen we have taken recently to develop.

Hall is the one who projects into the LOT position. He is big, quick, and fast. I believe it was a summer camp that the staff saw him and knew they wanted him. In addition to the recovery, he will need at least one year to get up to SEC strength. I would be shocked if he didn't sign on NSD. He is a talent. You won't find his athletism every day.

Are there any of our current linemen who have not played who would qualify for a redshirt? Kendrick has already played.

I think who we have committed right now is a good haul for one class. If they can sign the same number next yr we should be in good shape.

I believe the Vols have only 3 offensive linemen currently committed.

Who, if any, can or do play tackle?

Do you feel UT is done recruiting OL even though UT is most deficient across the line? The obvious MOST in position needs..............

Wouldn't you think that the staff will look to let some current recruits "look elsewhere" so they can sign 6 or 7 offensive linemen?

In case you're unaware, only 2 OTs play at a time. Just because you sign 7 doesn't mean they all get on the field at once.

I'm pretty sure he's aware of that. You can never have too many o-lineman. We need depth. We have athletes galore but continue to take them which leaves no room for the big guys. 4 lineman (1 who has to overcome a major injury) really isn't that many out of 25 to 26 commits. 2 more would be nice. Not just for depth next year, but the future.

CBJ said we're down two full classes at Oline. Seems like we'd have to take at least 5.

Most teams seem to carry 13-15 OL's on scholarship. Jones has chosen to give scholarships to longsnappers which restricts it a little more. Right now they have 12 scholarship OL's including Gilliam. Only Pair and Gilliam graduate. Signing 4 would put them at 14.... which is about all they probably want to carry with a LS on scholarship and an extra kicker.

I heard that and was somewhat uncomfortable with it... he almost had to be talking about the talent/quality of the guys they have. The numbers aren't that far off compared to other schools.

We will flip Richmond once he spends time on the Hill this weekend and KM stays whispering in his ear.... He will know and see that he could potentially come in and start, unlike Ole Miss where he will sit.

Return every ol that will see the field this year

Hy my not be elite but I think it would be hard for a fr to come in at that pos and beat these guys out

I think they will improve as a unit and w an offseason together be an effective group next year. Adding Blair into the mix should help as he should be mug better physically next year

It's hard to develop mediocre talent at skill positions. Not near as hard on the ol. I think w another year hey will be better

I am infinitely more concerned w our qb play

I doubt it man :(. I watched a TV show that was detailing Freeze's daily routine. There is a reason why so many people like him. It's hard not to like him. He's a huge Christian guy, well spoken, illustrates great leadership, family oriented, and a very good football coach. We take advantage of Butch and how well spoken and well rounded he is. The job of a head coach in the SEC is so stressful. Think of the pressure Butch is under 24/7. It seams half our fan base at times doesn't remember that just two years ago we had a head coach who no one liked, and now we have a head coach who everyone loves. We need as a fan base to take full appreciation of Butch and what he's done for us.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between with Freeze.

I don't think he's a bad guy by any stretch, but I've heard enough to think there's a bit of a facade there.

I think worley wishes he had more than 1 second to get rid of the ball. Hard to get in a rhythm and have good qb when you get drilled on every play.

I am about 99% sure that someone not starting right now will start at LT next fall. Not sure whether it will be a Fr, Blair, or someone we don't know about... but I think (and hope) the staff will come up with a better plan than playing an OG at LT.

That said, it would be great if Gilliam could somehow play as effective as he did when he won the job.

I'm just not overly impressed with the O-line and Qb recruiting by Jones and staff thus far.Everywhere else they've been lights out!

How do we know? Jones' recruits at those positions shouldn't be playing. In the SEC, those positions don't play for at least a year or two. Dobbs, Thomas, and Robertson were thrown into the fire as true freshmen. They need time.
