Official 2012 DNC thread

Gotta say that speach was weak.

Clinton was much better.

Clinton killed it. Obama's was same ole, ole. I probably wouldn't have watched the latter if I didn't want to see how he could possibly follow the smack down Clinton laid.

I think there's a huge difference between ignoring her and taking potshots at her. Plus, she's a terrible surrogate in a general election.

You agree with the GOP for ignoring her ?

Come on GA....

Sarah sticks her foot in her mouth on a regular basis, that is a given.

She is also the one person in the GOP that can fire the base up.

TP's and social conservatives are going to have to turn out in big numbers for Romney to win. She can ignite that base..

I think the GOP made a mistake in not giving her a speaking roll at their convention.

Name someone else who can fire the base up and get them excited like Sarah can?

He was basically asking for a mulligan and 4 more years. No thanks........... We've seen enough and we've felt it enough already.

What do you expect, this was John Kerry rambling off some garbage.

Do you think it was moronic that the GOP ignored her at their convention?

Do you think that pissed off the Tea Party ?

She has had a lot of clout within the party.
I don't think it was smart of them to ignore her.

She has that gift to fire up a crowd and get people excited.

Gramps have to agree with you here. Stupid of Kerry to even bring her up and insult her. It did nothing but galvanize more people against him.

I wonder if Palin has refused to support Romney in any meaningful way and that is why she was shunned? She should have been one of the early speakers at least. I am thinking that all is not well between Govs. Palin and Romney.

I don't know that Clinton "killed it" or he laid much of a "smack down". I mean he got up there and he got passionate yes, however, I felt like he talked a lot about himself and his own presidency. I'm not sure it really helped Obama that much. Did they get fired up at the convention? sure. But keep in mind you have people crying because Obama said we need to come together. If that makes you cry then you can be convinced of anything.

He went over Obamas record point for point. Even the CBS anchor at the end said he made a better case for the Obama campaign than the Ovama campaign has been able to make for itself.

I do agree that people crying over Obamas speech is silly. He didn't say anything new

The Dems have been blaming one man for years.

Doesn't make them right, nor does it make any of you right for doing the same thing. The sooner people actually wake up to that fact, the sooner we can get things done in this country.

Are you kidding me? Reread the transcript. After he initially backs Obama at the beginning of his speech, it takes him 18 paragraphs before he mentions Obama again.

And at the point it was to tell us the main reason to vote for Obama: "One of the main reasons we ought to re-elect President Obama is that he is still committed to constructive cooperation." Really?

Rubio, Newt and Mike Huckaby do fine with the base. Palin turns off independents and people capable of critical thought everywhere.

I would argue that Newt and Huckabee do a decent job of turning off independents as well.

Yeah, in the meantime he is building up the Democratic position, then there is 60% or so of the speech left where he talks extensively about Obama. Perhaps you should reread the transcript?

I was really talking about two different things there. As it pertains to independents, I was talking about why Palin wasn't speaking at the RNC.

Although, I think Huckabee might do better with independents than you might think. I think he could be the nominee right now if he wanted to be.

He could be the nominee, but I can't see him coming close in the general. Despite the cries of the talking heads and the far right, I don't think this country wants to make the move to super-conservative.

I wish he were. He would be a big upgrade.
I do not agree with him on all issues but I could vote for him and feel good about doing so.

Super Conservative is the only way to fix this mess. Even then i'm not sure it's fixable. May be too far gone already.

if he'd throw out the idiotic social side of his candidacy, he'd have a chance, but he can even get me to like him with all of that silliness. I freaking hate both sides of the feverish debaters in those fights. Letting our political future be hijacked by idiots debating abortion, gay marriage and weed is pathetic.

The thing is - Huckabee is only super conservative socially (which I know would turn of independents). He's not a hardcore fiscal conservative by any means - pretty moderate actually.

The problem is there are a tremendous amount of southern voters that vote republican strictly because of their social stances.
