Official 2015 Summer Baseball Thread

Senzel goes 0/3 with a run, a walk, an RBI and two k's...BA is .344...

Nick played 1B until the B9th, then he moved to 3B...Brewster wins 3-1...

Richard Jackson has his worst outing of the summer. Jackson entered the game in the top of the 8th, trailing 2-0. He gave up a lead off homerun and two singles but neither of those came across and he got out of the inning.

In the top of the 9th he got the first batter on a ground out, but walked the next batter. The next batter singled and the next hit a three run homer.

His ERA balloons to 5.09. Jackson got four strike outs in his two innings of work but gave up 5 hits, 4 earned runs and a walk.

Zach Warren is currently pitching well, 5ip 1R so far, and Chris Hall is 2-3 with his 2nd HR of the summer. Miners are up 3-1.

Zach Warren done after 6ip. He leaves with a 3-2 lead.
6ip 4H 2R 2ER 2BB 6K

Chris Hall now 3-4.

Zach Reid pitched tonight but the stats are down...came into a bases loaded jam, late...

Zach Warren gets the W, moving to 4-1 wit a 1.67ERA. Hall finishes 3-4 with 2RBI. Last check showed Leftridge was 1-3 tonight as well.

He would add some power, assuming he swings it anything like he has this summer.

Yeah...I actually watched him play quite a bit last night, he's a really big kid. I think I heard the announcer say he is at the top of the league at gunning guys down, I probably should chech that first...

LOL, well he is 4th in that category with 13...buuuuut, he is also 2nd in stolen bases against with 53 and 1st in attempted steals against. Simple case of the Home town announcer cherry picking stats...still he is a big kid with homerun power and hopefully Coach Simcox can get him ready. Actually, several guys could use some help in that department.:)

Zach Reid got the 2ip save tonight in a 7-6 win. He gave up one hit, and struck out 2. Cammarata was 0-3.

Reid drops his ERA down to 1.83...his 31 SO to 13 BB is not bad...pretty good numbers, and a lot of experience, productive summer for him.

Yep. I read where he had told someone on the Morehead City media staff he wanted to have the most appearances on the team. They said he was currently second at 21.

Richard Jackson pitched an inning of no hit baseball today. No hits, runs, walks or K...

KS pitched the 8th inning, sat them in order, got one K...3.21 ERA
Senzel got the day off...

Well, for most of the leagues this is the last week before the playoffs begin. In the Cape both Orleans and Brewster are in good shape and as fate would have it they play each other on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Third place Chatham, 1 game behind Brewster, plays first place Orleans in it's final two games and could make up ground on Brewster, especially if Orleans clinched before they meet and decides to rest some arms in preparation for the playoffs.

Nick Senzel took a foul ball to the shin the day before the All Star game. He played in that game but sat out yesterday. He currently leads the Cape with a .348 BA.

The Alaska League is on the same schedule and the Miners and Bucs are leading their division, barring an upset in the playoffs the two should be on a collision course to meet in the Championship series. Both Soto and Warren have had tremendous summers on par with or better than Bret Marks' season last summer.

Marks finished with a 1.89 ERA, 49 SO, 15 BB
Warren has a 1.67 ERA, 42 SO, 15
Soto has a 1.03 ERA, 27 SO, 8 BB

I will post a bunch of summer numbers this evening, but those numbers are very good news. Both Serrano and Martin are having solid summers in the Cape, hopefully Cox will be fully healthy...the rotation next year has a lot of promise.

The Coastal Plains League's regular season goes thru next Monday. Zach Reid has had an excellent summer as well, currently a 1.78 ERA, 32 SO, 15 BB. Morehead has a chance to make the playoffs, currently tied for 5th, and 1 game out of 4th...if they can get into that 4th spot they get in.

Dominick Cammarata is only batting .225 but he leads the team with 24 RBI .

A while back someone asked for a comparison of last summer's numbers and this summer's numbers. In my opinion only the Cape Cod League and The Alaska League can really be compared. For some players like Eric Freeman, for example, one can only compare what he did for Laconia last year and Valley this year in the New England League as there were no other players from UT in that league for the last two years. The Hamptons League is similar in that I don't know what can be derived from comparisons because there just isn't much history and no way to know what if any correlation exists between dominating the Hamptons League as a predictor for SEC performance.

So...Pitching...

2014 Alaska

Bret Marks: 1.89 ERA, 12 G, 5 GS, 0 CG, 2 W, 2 L, 42.2 IP, 32 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 15 BB, 49 SO, 5 2B, 2 HR, 1 WP, 4 HBP, .215 BAA

P. LStrohm: 3.52 ERA, 17 G, 0 GS, 0 CG, 2 W, 2 L, 23 IP, 18 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 15 BB, 22 SO, 4 2B, 1 HR, 4 WP, 2 HBP, .217 BAA

K. Serrano: 4.39 ERA, 9 G, 8 GS, 0 CG, 0 W, 2 L, 28. 2 IP, 20 H, 20 R, 14 ER, 33 BB, 42 SO, 4 2B, 0 HR, 4 WP, 2 HBP, .189 BAA

2015 Alaska

Aaron Soto: 0.88 ERA, 9 G, 7 GS, 3 CG, 6 W, 1 L, 50.2 IP, 33 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 9 BB, 30 SO, 5 2B, 0 HR, 0 WP, 2 HBP, .218 BAA

Z. Warren: 1.85 ERA, 8 G, 7 GS, 0 CG, 5 W, 1 L, 1 SV, 43.2 IP, 22 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 17 BB, 52 SO, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 WP, 2 HBP, .149 BAA

Lenstrohm was used as a reliever, everyone else above was a starter, though some had a few innings of relief, so keep that in mind.

The new balls should have resulted in Soto and Warren having higher ERA's, maybe the wood bats off set that.

Cape Cod 2014

Andrew Lee: 4.21 ERA, 7 G, 7 GS, 0 CG, 2 W, 3 L, 32 IP, 26 H, 18 R, 15 ER, 18 BB, 19 SO, 7 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 6 WP, 0 HBP, .230 BAA

D. Owenby: 5.52 ERA, 15 G, 1 GS, 0 CG, 0 W, 2 L, 14.2 IP, 17 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 11 BB, 12 SO, 3 2B, 0 HR, 0 WP, 2 HBP, .293 BAA

Cape Cod 2015

K. Serrano: 3.20 ERA, 8 G, 7 GS, 0 CG, 3 W, 2 L, 33.2 IP, 23 H, 14 R, 12 ER, 12 BB, 35 SO, 1 2B, 1 3B, 5 WP, 5 HBP, .187 BAA

H. Martin: 3.18 ERA, 8 G, 4 GS, 0 CG, 0 W, 1 L, 22.2 IP, 21 H, 11 R, 8 ER, 13 BB, 15 SO, 3 2B, 1 3 B, 2 HR, 3 WP, 2 HBP, .247 BAA

The same thing that applies to PLenny applies to Owenby...

Big difference in the SO/BB ratio for KS one summer to the next and against better competition.

Obviously, there is still a week to go and the final numbers could change a bit, but it's a fairly good representation at this point imo.

Other than those few comments, I'll keep any others to myself as I'm interested in the Board's feedback on the numbers.
