Official Alabama at Tennessee Game 1 Thread - 6 PM

I see a lot of the same qualities in cuonzo that i do in serrano. teams just can't finish well late in games. i know this doesn't really apply to bam a but we have lost so many games this year in the 8/9th inning.

he needs to be on the hot seat. maybe not fired this year. but if he can't get it done next year, GET HIM OUT!!!

It was always a 5 year rebuilding project minimum.

The team has improved dramatically and is still in last place.

That should tell you what he took over

Dave won championships. He's easily a top 10 college coach. He could easily manage in the MLB. We're very lucky Serrano didn't feel insulted and refused us.

Dave is our best coach at UT. Thank you Joan Cronan, vol baseball owes you.

You're high. You'd be firing the Nick Saban of baseball. The only reason our record isn't worse is because of Dave's managing.

Irvine had its best record in school history under him. Fullerton took a step down after he left. Both schools miss Dave.

I'm in the coach's corner but let's not get carried away.

Championships? Technically true since his teams have won conference titles and regional and two super regional titles. But generally when we talk about "championships" we're talking about national titles.

Top Ten? Hard to say. Since 2011, every new coach hired in the SEC has taken a team to the CWS as head coach with the exception of Holbrook, who of course was the assistant for SC's national championships. He has taken two different teams to CWS, but others in the SEC been there as often.

Could easily manage in MLB? Without any pro experience as a player or coach, not hardly.

I'm glad CDS is here. He was the best available coach when hired. I've said from the beginning we shouldn't judge him until after the 2015 season, and I think any talk of replacing him before his full 5-year contract is up is ridiculous. I'm encouraged by signs of progress, but we need to remember he is being asked to do something he hasn't done before--rebuild a last place team in the toughest conference in the country. Patience.

Frankly, I don't understand the panic I see. If we do as well in the second half of the conference schedule as we did in the first half, we will get to Hoover with 12 wins. Vandy might need to push the panic button, and SC might start thinking about it. But we are basically on track.

He's one of the most respected names in college baseball. Fire Serrano after 3 and you won't get anybody worth a shiit to come here.

He may be a great coach, but at some point, we need results. Period.

You're seeing results. Did you forget this program was in the toilet? I remember watching his first team here, they were awful. We've improved every year since he came here.

Don't run off a top 10 coach. You won't find one like Serrano.

He built Irvine from the ground up. I'm more impressed with coaches who win at two different schools than winning at the same school twice. Charlie Manuel never had MLB experience, and he's great.

I don't understand the panic either. It's not like were fielding a team full of experienced guys. He hasn't even fully built his roster yet. I'm excited for the new recruiting class, and our guys after this year.

Should have never run off Delmonico.

Check your history. UC Irvine went to a regional the year before CDS arrived, and the Big West isn't the SEC. Charlie Manuel played in MLB for 6 years and managed in the minors for a long time before he got his first MLB manager gig.

Regardless of whether it's better to take one team to Omaha twice or two teams once, I can still name ten or more coaches who have gone there more than twice and coaches who won it all. Serrano has a great resume, but so do a lot of other guys.

I'm not dissing him at all--just saying if you ask a bunch of college baseball fans around the country to name their top ten coaches, he'll appear on some lists, but there will also be a lot of good lists that don't include him.

I'm trying to maintain balance--neither panicking over this weekend's games or engaging in hero worship. He's doing a good job, but there's still a lot of work ahead and success isn't guaranteed just because of what he did out west.
