Official Book Thread - What You're Reading & Everything Book Related (merged)

I am now about halfway through John Adams by McCullough. So far it is an amazing book but I can't help but picture Paul Giamatti every time I think of Adams.
That is a great book, but I know what you mean about picturing Giamatti. The perils of HBO.

seriously good book. I believe he also did 1776 or something like that (yes, I am too sorry to look it up) that tried to chronicle the Revolutionary war. It's also a good read.

You are correct. I read it a couple of years ago.

I know some of you still read!

I am currently reading The Four Winds : A Shaman's Odyssey into the Amazon by Alberto Villoldo and Erik Jendresen and I'm loving it! Think of an Indian Jones-esque, non-fic adventure novel, only with a Shaman and less sensationalized action. :)

sounds interesting.

Haha. I was going to revive this thread, then I saw it already was.

I read I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to laugh and isn't very sensitive. I'm reading A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore right now. It's pretty good so far. I plan on reading more of his books.

I recently read "A Long Way Gone" by Ishmael Beah. That book was one of the best reads I have had had in a while.

I'm still working on getting around to "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie, but from what I know of the stroy, it's a great book. Very tough read though, there are actually websites dedicated to helping people understand it.

I just finished "Meat Market" and I am now reading "Dixieland Delight". Both are very enjoyable books.

That book by Beah is outstanding.

Hey, so people do still read!

I am currently finishing up Water For Elephants by Sara Gruden. I read the first hundred pages on my flight and haven't been able to put it down since. If you haven't heard of Sara Gruden then you may want to check out this book. It's a great fictional adventure story and the author is a superb story teller. I expect this to be made into a movie one day as well. I think it would translate well to the big screen.

Just started The Salmon of Doubt by Douglas Adams. It holds the world record for the number of introductions...still trying to get through the introductions

... Sara Gruden..

Doesn't she own land in Sevier County?

Anyhow, I do a lot of travelling for work so I purchased "One Second After" by William Forschten on audiobook from itunes... I suggest this book to anyone who watched the TV series Jericho. Its a post apocolyptic novel about America being hit by an EMP weapon. The reader of the audio book does his best to mimic a southern drawl for some of the characters which is rather distracting at first, but once you get past that its a fantastic book.

I just read "A long way gone". It is an account of a boy soldier in Sierra Leone. Yikes.

Just started World War Z, after I finish it I plan on reading Lord of the Rings from start to finish, since I have never read the whole thing. I have a lot of nothing to do this summer, might as well read a little.
