Official Book Thread - What You're Reading & Everything Book Related (merged)

I decided last month to try to read some more "classic" books. I just finished the D'Artegnan romances by Dumas (Three Musketeers, Twenty years later, Man in the Iron Mask) and I am currently reading A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway.

Great thread idea. :hi:

Read these in Junior high...Excellent .

Anyone with suggestions for a book to take on vacation? I really enjoy philosophy and/or books that "make you think." If nothing else, I may take on "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance."

Been perusing some Bukowski "Notes of a Dirty Old Man". Post Office and Women are still among my favorites.

When I make my Sunday morning run for groceries I'm gonna see if Wally World has Beck's new book.

Doc.......I made an attempt at this one twice. Found myself nodding off both times. I understand where the writer is trying to take you but it seemed painfully slow to me!
Maybe you'll have better luck.

I enjoyed it when I read it, but I know what you're saying .. I know that some of the philosophical arguments/references went right over my head ...

made we want to get that motorcycle that I intended to get when I was younger .. maybe I wouldn't kill myself if I rode one today ...

LOL........I understand. I was over 40 when I got my first bike. I've had pretty good luck so far!

Pioneers, Politicians, and Patriots 'The True Story of America' by Don Boys.PhD. Good read, takes a different angle and walks you event to event through some of our finest and darkest moments. My personal favorite tidbit:Aparently, Irish speaking men in 500-800 ad, left accounts of the birth of Christ in an ancient Irish script called "Ogam" in what is now southern West Va. Other "Ogam" carvings can be found in Ireland still to day and are dated from 6th to 8th centuries AD.

Just got done reading "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell and "Eating the Dinosaur" by Chuck Klosterman. Both interesting and entertaining but in completely different ways.

Catcher in the Rye- 7.5/10
i had always been curious about checking it out. thought it was pretty good.

On Rocky Top: A Front Row Seat to the End of an Era- 7/10
finally got around to finishing this one up after i bought it late last summer. nice read, although as alot of people on here have said about it, there aren't near as many "insider" moments as i thought there would be in it, and clay substitutes alot of that with stories about his personal life and other vols tales that hardcore ut fans should already know. i still enjoyed it, though.

currently reading Meat Market by Bruce Feldman. as many good reviews as i've heard about it, i thought i would finally give it a look. it's been good so far.

Duckman, you forgot to rate Twilight. Unless you lied when you said you read the entire series in 4 days.

i think i've found a suitable book for you harry. it seems to be geared toward your type of audience. i think i've got a cover of it somwhere.

that's right......
