Official Book Thread - What You're Reading & Everything Book Related (merged)

I am re-reading the Ice and Fire series in preparation for "A Dance With Dragons" finally being released. I am a few hundred pages into "A Game of Thrones".

World 3.0 by Pankaj Ghemawat. It looks at globalization with solid data and research before moving onto policy proposals.

The best part so far is that it shows how shallow (and wrong) Thomas Friedman's "The World is Flat" thesis is.

Utopia by Lincoln Child. Good read if you are looking for an author to replace the late Michael Crichton.

Just ordered The Walking Dead: Compendium One off of Amazon. It's an epic eight-volume, thousand page, graphic novel by Robert Kirkman that the show The Walking Dead is based off of. It seems I've made a habit of reading post-apocalyptic novels around winter time, not sure why. :)

Just started Brothers K yesterday; I am 100 pages in and find it almost as good as Crime and Punishment.

Awol on the Appalachian Trail

It's an account of one man's thru-hike of the AT, the kind of people he meets along the way, etc. I'm about half way through so far and I'm really enjoying it. Makes me want to pick up backpacking.

Rereading "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. Should be mandatory reading before posting in the Politics Forum.

just started Seal Target Geronimo, by Chuck Pfarrer

"The inside story on the Mission to Kill Osama Bin Laden"

Thus far have read Brothers K and The Old Man and the Sea on this break. Just started Hermann Hesse: A Pilgrim of Crisis by Ralph Freedman and The End of the Affair by Graham Greene.

finished, Geronimo...the Killing of Bin Laden

Very quick read, and interesting in the fact that it points toward Zawahiri, continuing to use the messenger to set Bin Laden up, so he could take control of Al Queda...

Also interesting is that Seal Team Six only fired 12 shots in the assault that killed Bin Laden, and 4 of them we're out him.

Just started 11-22-63 by Stephen King
Pretty excited so far, but I'm only bout 40 pages in.

I believe New is reading My Little Pony.

Will be reading this later today or tomorrow. Very short book/long article.

The Cartel: Inside the Rise and Imminent Fall of the NCAA by Taylor Branch.
