Official Book Thread - What You're Reading & Everything Book Related (merged)

Recently read "The Racketeer", John Grisham - awesome book

"Proof of Heaven", Eben Alexander - interesting

Next up: "The Wind Through the Keyhole", Stephen King

I recently finished American Sniper by the late U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. Chris Kyle. He talks about how he became the sniper with the most confirmed kills. It's a very good book if you enjoy reading military books.

I also just finished Damn Few by U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. Rorke Denver. He talks a lot about when he went through BUD/S and other missions prior to and including Iraq. It's another very good military book.

American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History

Great read

Recently finished The Story of English in 100 Words, then re-read The Worm Ouroboros, and now am just about done with The War that Killed Achilles.

So, to sum up, I like language and history and swords and boats and fantasy and mythology.

BUUUUUMMMP!

Started reading the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons. Hold onto your socks if you read this one. The first two books are a damn near modern sci fi masterpiece. Lots of amazing "stories within a story" cleverly weaved into this beautifully written epic and the ending is absolutely brilliant. I am now onto the third of four in the series, Endymion and am glad I decided not to stop with just the two. 50 pages in and I was hooked. Dan Simmons is the man.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon...for the third time.

I haven't read that book, but I've read Boys Life, several times,a very good book for sure

i really liked Steven Kings Desperation, one of his darker novels

and the Terry Goodkind novels about the Sword of Truth,if you like swords and magic, the first one is Wizard's First Rule

Haven't read Underground but I do love me some Murakami. How's it going?

It's depressing and inspiring all in one. Kind of scary, too.

I just finished 1Q84 which I thought was pretty awesome. Hardboiled was my first Murakami book, 1Q84 my second, and now I've left his fiction stuff with Underground. I'll probably read Kafka on the Shore next.

It's taking me a while to get through 1Q84 but I'm about halfway. I think it's his best use of mystery yet.

I would highly recommend Kafka and Norwegian Wood. Those two are my favorite. Sputnik Sweetheart is good too; it was my first.
