Official Boxing thread

I don't get the scorn for the guy, he's grown on me, and unless Vargas or Santa Cruz gets in a spot to lead a PPV card Canelo is going to be the Mexican cash cow for the foreseeable future.

I don't think there is anything objectively bad or offensive about Canelo (I know my wife loves him) but I think him being anointed to the level you reference is where a lot of the dissatisfaction from the fans comes from.

He's a solid fighter but he isn't sensational to watch, he was rushed through a list of a lot of nobodies and I personally thought he lost, or at best drew, with Trout, (stupid open scoring) just to be given a huge paycheck to lose to Floyd.

Since then he's gone on to be beat Angulo (statue), Lara (another ? win), and now Cotto who looked like a younger sibling fighting their big brother on Saturday.

None of that is really his fault, it's just boxing unfortunately, but he doesn't seem to have a lot of things that make him endearing to most fight fans. Now, less than a week since the fight that was supposed to have a mandatory must-fight-Golovkin-next clause, there are already starting to be whispers about there being another fight for each guy in between to help "build" a Canelo-GGG matchup. If that happens, it'll be on Oscar as much as Alvarez but it will be yet another thing that won't really help him in the public perception department. I believe GGG can veto that arrangement but, considering the sport, there will always be around something like that if it'll help line someones pocket somewhere.

Agree with all of this. I thought Oscar would be a breath of fresh air as a promoter but man, GBP is possibly the sketchiest outfit in the business.

I'm hoping for a good fight this afternoon, but think Fury is going to come out aggressive and walk into something big relatively early.

Good for Fury, he certainly deserved it, though I was sick to my stomach waiting for Buffer to read the cards expecting a robbery.

If I remember correctly, the last update I read was Garcia wanted to walk from TR altogether but then agreed to fight Terrence Crawford with TR as his promoter if they agreed beforehand that after that fight his contract would be terminated. Arum, as of a few months ago, didn't appear to be a fan of either of those scenarios.

Guy's got no choice but to play Arum's game, sure he's got his pride or whatever but is pride worth the lost money?

As I saw someone elsewhere on the internet say:

"Makes sense. Fighting an older guy with knee problems? That's definitely Cotto's wheelhouse."

Pacquiao's going to beat Bradley, lose in a senate election in the Philippines, Mayweather'll un-retire for a fight vs Pacquiao, Pacquiao'll unretire for a fight vs Mayweather, Pacquiao KO in 3rd round and then Pacquiao'll retire for good. Mayweather will then fight GGG, win by decision, and retire for good. In a perfect world.

Canelo vs. Khan in May? Where the hell did that come from? Can't really see any outcome that doesn't end badly for Khan, feel like there's no way that he doesn't get physically dominated at 155.
