If what LaMonte says is true and Dave Hart only reached out to him for the first time this morning as a courtesy.... He should get a pay raise.

The fact that he couldn't get Gruden is one thing. The fan base can get over that. Their hero isn't coming, and that pleases those of us that aren't blinded by a Super Bowl ring.

Letting the ring lickers, mouth breathers, self-proclaimed Grudenites and idolators erupt for the last two weeks while he apparently sat in his office NOT making a knee-jerk reaction, and doing what's in the best interests of the football program ?!?!

This is better than I could ever have imagined......Who cares that its not even close to being over, Gruden's not coming and that's AWESOME.

Put me in the group that thinks we might have an outstanding new AD as well.

1: He didn't hire that colossal sack of fail, Jon Gruden.

2: He didn't cave when "fans" that can't see anything other than shiny objects and a television screen started bellowing that they wanted that face-making pile of pig excrement on the sidelines at Neyland. I can't believe that the cry-baby entitled sacks of smashed rectums on here are calling for Hart to be fired because they wanted Gruden, and now they look like MORONS. I, for one, applaud Mr. Hart for sticking to his guns.

Gruden may not have coached at the college level, but he has better connections than any coach available, and could hire an all-star staff that would win. Gruden also has better face recognition than anyone, rivaling Saban, and would be a recruiting superstar... it sucks we didn't get him, but to say he was a bad idea, is pure stupidity.

Well I am not ready just yet to call Hart a genius but he has done a much better job putting together a pay package than Hammy did. MH went cheap and we got what we paid for and will continue to pay for a few years. We can not afford another mistake here, so I am OK with him taking his time but I am a little surprised that Hart did not already have a short list, with the coaching job DD was doing this year I think most fans did.

As for Gruden I never saw him as a real candidate simply because he he sees himself as an NFL guy not NCAA guy.

Do I really need to go back through all the Gruden threads and show you how many times that ring was mentioned?? Fact is that it was, numerous times, and people were talking about it like it had magical powers where all Grubage would have to do is walk into a recruit's living room, and the recruit would be licking Gruden's shoes to play for him. You don't know (and for the record, neither do I) what goes on in a 17-year old's head. Some kids just don't wanna play football at Tennessee, no matter WHO the coach is.
