Official Debate Thread

Whether it totally makes sense or not based on the issues...Obama won this debate...he did it on the economy...and the first 3/4 of the debate or so.

McCain got his feet under him on Georgia and took it over from there - which saved him from a blow out in minds of most independents, IMO. However, I think the damage was done...we'll see how the polling works out....

McCAin's best moments were the question on Israel from the Naval officer and his answer to the very last question. The problem is that there were about 3 people still awake by that point in the debate.

Give it a couple of days and I think there might be some effect.

It has been all over the conservative radio for months. Hannity and Limbaugh feel the need to mention it about once every 10 minutes. All it does is make conservatives hate him more, and does not persuade democrats. Undecides obviously don't care because they are still undecided with a month left.

It is silly to say Obama subscribes to the views this guy had 40 years ago, or endorses what he did. It is, in fact, a stretch. A hail mary.

I agree with that. Obama clearly did not answer the Israel/Iran question.

I agree. That was a strong answer and his handshake with the man was powerful as well. I noticed that Obama didn't dare try to shake the guy's hand, too. I think he learned a lesson from the "I've got a bracelet, too, John!" from the first debate.

How exactly has this tactic helped McCain so far?

Well seeing how McCain didn't bring it up in the debate, it's not. The fact that Ayers received a huge grant and tapped Obama to give out the money, who in turn gave it to organizations like ACORN is kind of a big deal, wouldn't you agree? Plus, Dick Morris just pointed out that Ayers stated that he believed public education should be used to promote radical ideas.

Oh, and the fact he's a known terrorist. Let's not leave that little fact out.

Ayers is not a winning strategy and they know it, it's more about delegitimizing Obama in the minds of certain voters so he won't be able to govern effectively when elected.

Is there a source for this? And even if it is true, why is it a big deal?

Well, obviously this means Obama shares this view.

Oh, and the fact he's a known terrorist. Let's not leave that little fact out.

Well, by golly, Obama must be one too.

The New York Times.

Well, obviously this means Obama shares this view.

And if McCain associates with people like this, you think it wouldn't be news worthy? Please.

Well, by golly, Obama must be one too.

No, just an ultra hard core lib who has questionable associations. But apparently, he's beyond these type of questions. You claim talk radio is beating it to death, who else will bring it up? MSNBC? This is an issue, whether you agree or not is irrelevant.

Like Michael Barrone just stated . . . If we send 4 journalists to Wasilla, AK to scour Sara Palin's expense accounts, Bill Ayers association with Obama is a worthwhile issues to investigate.

Watching the debate tonite, I've accepted the inevitable........Obama will beat the old soldier on November fourth. The debate questions were filtered by the ultra-liberal Brokaw so no question arose about immigration, abortion etc. The debate was a replay of the sound bites of debate #1. Obama looked smooth and thoughtful while McCain appeared aged, out of touch and totally unable to get the 500 pound Gorrillas, Bush and the economy, off his back.

It's my opinion that either Romney or Rudy Guillania(sp) could have easily beatened Obama, considering he will be the least qualified president in my memory. My fear is what Reid and Pelosi will turn this country into unchecked by the executive branch.:mf_surrender:

The fact is the same people on here and elsewhere who clmais that Ayers is a non issue would be yelling from the highest building if this was about McCain. ACORN has been accused of being guilty of voter fraud, yet it's not that big of a deal.

What NY Times article?

And of course it would be news worthy if McCain had similar associations, it would be liberal fodder for MSNBC, but it wouldn't be effective.

Keep saying it. Keep saying it. Keep those republican votes coming for McCain, because it isn't changing anybody else's mind.

It has been investigated. What, after a month of harping, new is going to come out?

The same ultra-liberal Brokaw who was giving McCain and Palin the slurp job the last two debates?

As for the questions about abortion and immigration, abortion is a non-issue, and immigration wouldn't have helped John McCain in the least with anybody, including his base.

I wouldn't. I also think that Keating is a non-issue.

In response to the ACORN thing, there were plenty of accusations of voter fraud made against Republicans in Ohio, too, and you don't see me spouting off about that either

CNN snap poll has no good news for McCain.

Who expressed his views more clearly in the debate?

Obama 60
McCain 30

Who spent more time attacking his opponent?

Obama 17
McCain 63

Who seemed to be the stronger leader?

Obama 54
McCain 43

Who was most likeable?

Obama 65
McCain 28

What about guns? Oh that's right, that's a non-issue, too. McCain should take comfort in the fact that he will always have THE SURGE. Viva la SURGE!

Google it. You can do it, I know you can. And of course you think it should be dropped, nothing surprising there.

For the 1000th time, who was cleared? John Glenn certainly wasn't. Who's campaign is he on again? And there was accuastions in Ohio against the Dems as well for that very thing. The difference is that McCain wasn't repsonsible for any organization that has been accused of that for receiving a large amount of money OR representing them. One of their offices was just raided as well. But I know, it's a non issue right? That's what you get with a community organizer, I guess.

Google it. You can do it, I know you can. And of course you think it should be dropped, nothing suprising there.

I did google it amigo, I couldn't find it. I honestly want to know if this.....

The fact that Ayers received a huge grant and tapped Obama to give out the money, who in turn gave it to organizations like ACORN is kind of a big deal, wouldn't you agree?

...is true.

I don't want to drop it, I want to read the article.
