Official Duke/UNC 2016-17 Thread

Winning the conference championship regular season title carries huge weight. Especially in the ACC.

I don't have a problem with UNC getting a 1 as long as Duke did as well. Put it that way. Duke not only beat Carolina twice, but also had a much tougher conference schedule.

Feels kinda like 2013, where Duke looks like one of the four best teams but somehow gets slotted in a region with the #1 overall seed.

I don't see much of a test for Duke to get to the Elite 8... but then you could have Nova. That would be a great game.

Still, I think Duke wins at all.

The committee chair is pissing me off, basically saying that Duke is below Carolina because the committee had them lower on Wednesday and got anchored into it

Having UNC being locked in as a 1 seed before tournament play is criminal. Their logic got UNC as a 1 makes no sense.

"You gotta understand the process. It started on Wednesday. We never looked at the two head-to-head because we stopped paying attention after Wednesday."

Yes, that's ridiculous. If that's the process, the process sucks. The conference tournaments should matter.

I exaggerated a little, but the explanation was basically that Duke was a 4 on Wednesday and never got compared to Carolina because of the "scrubbing process" where they were compared to other teams one by one and didn't jump enough of them. He actually said, "Remember, 3 of those top-25 wins for Duke were recent; they didn't have them on Wednesday."

To me, if Duke's resume is better than Carolina's today, it shouldn't matter where the hell you had them on Wednesday.

Carolina could've had those wins too but since they didn't play in Chapel Hill they can't beat anyone.

Duke fans complaining about not playing road games is a classic. I'll always remember that.

Anyhow, regarding the seeding, I'm a bit surprised UNC is a 1. I think 2 was more appropriate, but it sounds like the committee was impressed by the ACC this year and determined to give it to the regular season champion with the best record, regardless of resume specifics.

At the end of the day, whether your team is a 1 or a 2 seed, it doesn't really matter. Basically the same thing. The only thing that really matters about being a 1 seed over a 2 seed is that being a 1 seed looks better on historical records for a program.

You are right about that - 1 vs 2, it only matters for historical records. I would've liked for Duke to have got the 1 in the South so I could go see them, but 2 in the East is better for Duke. Having to go to Memphis to play UK will be a home game for them and I wouldn't want Duke to play there.

They'll get to go to MSG (assuming they win) which is called Cameron Indoor North for a reason - it's usually kind to Duke. Duke also has a pretty nice record in NY this year, 5 or 6 - 1 I believe. I like that Duke goes for more neutral site games in OOC for this reason, it could be beneificial for Duke this year to have played in the Garden and NY a few times so far.

I'm not a fan of possibly playing USCjr in Greenville with both USCjr and UNC fans in the same arena. Duke should win,, but I don't really like it.
