Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I'm not a fan of excuses. No matter what the Vols do, our fan base makes tons of excuses. Our defense has been horrible all year. They were also horrible last year. So far, they aren't showing improvement. Not all wins are equal. They're all important, but some wins show weaknesses that will lose to future big losses if not adequately addressed. I don't see our defensive weaknesses getting addressed at all.

Our run defense is excellent. It's the DB's that kill us.

This is one of the best offenses I've seen us have in my lifetime.

no idea why we didn't just throw it in the endzone on our last drive. They weren't stopping the deep ball

Coach Hype is a smart guy.

I am gonna trust that he learned his lesson today about NEVER EVER taking your foot off the gas against flarduh. Without having to learn in the hard way.

F@$K FLARDUH. that is all.

Guys i thought we were screwed again both in the 1st qtr, and in the 4th after we took our foot off the gas and let them back in the ballgame. How the ball ALWAYS seems to bounce their way....and the refs NEVER call the blatant holds , right at the point of attack, i will never understand

Every bit of that happened again today. The TEs were absolutely terrible with 3 drive killers in the 1st half alone....the pass defense was horrendous, as bad as the Purdue game if not worse....and we STILL WON. We proved against Pitt and again today that if we just keep scoring 40 a game we can beat anyone. It is insane, but true.

We just have to outscore everyone we play.

We have no reason to believe that we cannot do that. Go VOLS

Napier is a whiney little bitch isn't he?
I don't think I've been that pissed at Neyland since the Gaffney "catch". When he was out on the field and finally got a penalty my section was losing their s*it. I wanted to take his headset and beat the hell out of him with it. I'm not one to cuss at games but I might have called him a stupid SOB a few times while standing on bleacher. Lol

Getting that monkey off our back feels great! No point in over analyzing rivalry games.

Take the win, get healthy in the the bye week, and get ready to take the fight to LSU in Death Valley.

Our defensive backfield is worthless as tits on a boar.

I can't figure out if it's who they have to work with or if the person deciding strategy for the defense just sucks at it. It's obvious that the FL passing game suffers when there is pressure on the QB, but most of the time there is no real attempt to do so. Could be it's just the new game of football where holding isn't holding. It's amazing how it was explained for a while that hands to the inside were OK - just as long as an offensive lineman didn't have arms around the outside. Apparently FL linemen weren't guilty of holding our defense ... they were just hugging them because they were so damn happy to see them. This new game of football sucks.

Don't kid yourself, McDad. Our defense is flat out Horrible with a capital H. Only UT can successfully thread the needle of winning a game to stay undefeated at 4-0 while beating an opponent that we have lost 16 of the last 17 games against, and I walk away feeling that we aren't nearly as good as I thought we were going into this game.

There's a lot of opportunity to move up in the polls today. Problem is what was on the field today isn't anywhere near a top 10 team, and if it keeps playing this kind of defense, it will be run out of SEC stadiums. Worse is that when things turn to recruiting, it seems like that's pretty much all offense when it's obvious on the field that we need defensive players.

we played soft on richardson all night scared of his legs and he had the night of his life. it happens when you play scared. Didn't matter, we won.

Yep, we did win in spite of it all. They tried really hard to give the W away, though.

We were supposed to have a ton of recruits (including a lot of defensive players) at today’s game. I would have preferred to have seen us shut down Florida’s offense so our coaching staff could sell the huge level of improvement in the team. Instead, I think they’re stuck selling huge offensive improvement, a big win over a huge rival, and the opportunity for early playing time on defense.

I know we don’t have a ton of talent on defense, but I’m not seeing improvement on that side of the ball. The defensive play calling is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. 3rd and Chavis is a fond memory compared to what we‘re getting now.

There's definitely opportunity for play on defense, but you have to wonder if good quality recruits will look at our defensive coaches as people who will enhance their skills and make them marketable at the next level. It's interesting that most of us recognize a university education as a place where knowledgeable people teach us to become successful after graduation, but somehow we see new recruits not as students but as solutions to build a team. Makes you wonder if the recruits will go where they might have better defensive coaching.

That was precisely my #1 concern about today’s game. I don’t think this defensive performance will support our ability to land big-time recruits on defense, and we had a lot of them there today. I hope today’s performance didn’t actually hurt our recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. While some recruits will bite on the opportunity to play early, I’m a bigger fan of being able to sell that our coaching staff will improve your skills and help you get to the NFL. I find that sales pitch extremely problematic with our DC.

So looking back we actually got another monkey off our back tonight. Finally a STARTING UF QB had a career day against us and we still won.
This right here is one reason I am not tainting the win with grousing about the defense. AR isnt a scrub QB. The young man is extremely talented. His talent doesn't always shine because he is learning the position. He played incredibly. Our D plan, as I saw it, was to rush 4, contain him, stop the run and make AR beat us with the pass....which he almost did. A good plan because that is his weakness. What AR did is tonight is akin to what Dobbs did for us under Butch. It's what Adrian Martinez just did to Oklahoma.

Unfortunately this win will not look better as the season continues. I have a feeling UF will tank which is their trend when there isn't anything important to play for.

What Heupel has done in this short amount of time is amazing. Just think where we were beginning of last year.
Game plan worked perfectly. heck we didnt even punt once. A couple of better tackles and a couple of 4th down stops..and we win running away.
