Yeah that grizzly was a neat SOB. Ate a loaf of bread, a jar of Jiffy peanut butter (crunchy type), and a tin of Jiffy pop, and piled the refuse at the base of a tree. Not a coconut tree.

And we were the lucky ones. That same week at a campground higher up, three girls from Illinois were hauled from their tent and mauled to death.

yikes! Ted Turner wanted to "reintroduce" grizzlies back to his property in NM... adjacent to the Philmont ranch. Grizzlies around 20,000 kids a year tromping through the woods and camping and cooking is not a great idea.

Interesting fact: bears have a much keener sense of smell than dogs, by a factor of 100 or more IIRC.
