Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

put me down for loving German food. I never understood "pairing" food with drinks, particularly alcoholic drinks until I went to Germany and Austria. So freaking good, I learned how to ask what was the seasonal food and asked them to pair it with the seasonal beer. Some of those small "mom and pop" places have been pairing food and beer longer than we have been a country and it shows!

I am not sure what percentage German I am DNA wise, but my stomach and gut is 100% German.

its not sexy or pretty food, but dang does it taste good, fill you up, while not weighing you down.

Also I laughed my butt off when I got off the plane in Munich and the first thing I see is a sausage vending machine.

Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, followed by either John Bonamassa or INXS today on the Youtube concert setlist.

Gonna be a good day.

My wife's mother was German. The food is rich in flavor and often accompanied by savory sauces, but I don't understand how the entire population doesn't suffer from heart attack in their 30s. Turns out the "low fat craze" really was unscientific. Lots of carbs and beer, though. Maybe they exercise a lot in those lederhosen.

They convert those carbs! Germans are a very fit and physically active culture. Every foreign hike/trek I've been on was always made up of mostly German amd/or Swedish trekkers.

Today's a house cleaning day. I always make playlists for tasks. Looking at it now, my day's going to start like this.

You on the Run - The Black Angels
Clouds of Your Mind - The Kundalini Genie
Something's Wrong - Magic Shoppe
Dark Side - Shadows of Knight
Along - Ghostwoman

There's a theme if nerds can spot it.

Germans have mustard down, too. No one does it better.
agreed. they do a really good job pairing subtle flavors with very strong flavors.

its amazing how far a little bit of seasoning/flavoring goes when you are so used to American food being seasoned to the nth degree. that little pinch of zest/citrus would be lost in an American meal, but pops in German cuisine.
