I don't put forks in if they have food on them. Soak them before l throw em in and half a swipe with a brush. My first hourly job was washing dishes, and my tolerance for putting food in the machine is probably 1/10 what your is. Drives me crazy to pull out a bowl and it's still got crusties on it

My dishes basically go into the dishwasher to be sanitized. They're already debris-free and spotless.

I'm not quite there but today's energy efficient dishwashers can't handle a lot of food debris.

Actually not true. Modern dishwashers and detergent are meant to use enzyme reactions to food debris for activation. Scrape off large waste, don't rinse. That also conserves water.
