Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Hang in there sport.
You going to the Masters? I know you like it and have been before in the past. Let me know if you do. I hang in there with one great friend who is a member and another long time acquaintance who is a member. The latter hooked up the former😉

Unfortunately, neither of those fellows will be with my wife, dog and me in Switzerland next Friday🤭😉😀. I'm extraordinarily lucky

Probably not this year. I forgot to submit my application last year and my health isn’t where it needs to be right now to get around the course but that’s neither here nor there. I have a friend that gets a lot of tickets but I would probably tell him to let someone else go who hasn’t been if he offered.

I get it. People who haven't been down there and walked that place have no idea as to the fairly quick elevation changes. Even going and camping out at one hole isn't comparable to walking the course with various groups. My first experience there was in 1982 when we played a great college tournament at another course there. We got finished with our toonament on Tuesday and stayed till late Friday. We went to a practice round on Wednesday and the tournament in Thursday and Friday. Real treat at 18

Never cared for the game personally. To me it seems a colossal waste of time and money.

But my friend loves it.
Not sure if most avid golfers know this little tidbit: The members at AN only have about 5 or 6 months to play it each year. Any year they are making changes is much less. That's not uncommon for that place, especially the last 25 years and all the technological advances in the game during that time. AN has evolved accordingly

It’s a unique place for sure. There’s other tournaments where you can get closer and see more but it’s not Augusta National. I like to move around and see the guys up close. I’m checking out their grips, ball position and all that nerdy golfer stuff.

It’s definitely something every golfer should experience at least once.

Agree with you. A client took me for a practice round some years back. It was when Tiger first came back after the Perkins waitress scandal. He walked around with Freddy Couples. The skipping at the 16th hole is just a lot of fun to watch.

I enter the ticket lottery every year. No luck so far.

You would appreciate how meticulous the place is. It’s easy to drop a grand in the gift shop but you aren’t paying $18 for a sandwich and $12 for a beer.
oh yeah, the grounds look amazing. best manicured hike one could ever go on.

I had someone who goes tell me the only problem is they don't allow cell phones, I told them I have no problem with that.
