Okay. So I and others do not have to answer this question over and over and over here is the final word on how the numbers work out this year.

We can sign a maximum of 30 players in this class. That means that the list of our 2010 recruiting class can have up to 30 names on it.

The maximum number of prospects we can enroll into school at UT this year is 27. That's 25 for this class plus 2 of the guys that are already here count towards last year's class.

The reason you would sign more than 27 is that there may be one or two guys who do not qualify and they would be sign and place candidates.

Right now we are sitting with 25 commitments. I expect at least 1 of those to switch their commitments to another school which will open another spot.

Can the 3 guys that aren't on the roster be "grey shirted"? Where they pay their way until December and then are given a scholarship in January or do I have that confused?

Can someone explain to me why coaches do the sign and place? It really doesn't look that smart because you know other schools will recruit the play the following season and he might not land with the school again...

so we would be actually losing them then ,right ?

Yes. The SEC Rule is signing 28 players per year, whether they all can enroll or not. That does not include guys you can back count, which in our case is 2. So, we can back count 2 of the 30, but only enroll 25, according to NCAA rules, that give us a total of 27 that can get into school and 3 that have to go PREP or JUCO because they can't enroll.

I didn't check to see if this was answered earlier, but certainly. That's the situation Alabama got in last year, Lacey (amazingly) and some other guys qualified and they had to greyshirt some guys.

OR greyshirt. That's a common occurrence.
