Hired a retired guy to hang Christmas lights and turns out he’s ex-CIA and was in Baghdad the night of the invasion and was pinned down with the Iraqi royal guard. He explained to me the treaty between China and Baghdad and why our troops never entered the city. I never knew.

Huh?

We most definitely entered the city. :)

The French army had a crisis of leadership in WW2. The soldiers' morale was low, but morale is often low when you have poor leadership. The general staff and civilian government was a defeatist cluster****. The French army, up until that time, was considered one of the best in the world. In fact, and interesting to note, some of the last defenders of Berlin were French soldiers who were drafted by the SS/Wehrmacht.

French military history is a very proud one, including Charles Martel, Charlemagne, Napoleon, and WWI.

I agree. From a Tennessee standpoint, I'm not buying the "let the players play, coaches coaching for their next job". If anything, it seems like more of a distraction. The coaches already know they are gone. Announcing it would amp the players and fanbase. The only reason I see keeping it quite is because of Grudens other obligations.

very true however the current coaches want to make a statement for their next employer.....this is why the admin/future coach may want to lay low with an announcement. Not saying I agree but they may be wanting the "old" staff to win the next 2 games so they can find employment faster.

Man, I loved Baghdad Bob. We loved watching him live, tuned in just for him.

Had a guy on staff who looked a lot like him, too. Did a skit about him at Christmas, it was hilarious.

Baghdad Bob and yesterday's airport periscope were just about equally funny, I think, and in kinda the same way. :)

I'll never forget when he said the Americans were not in Baghdad, and an Abrams rolled through the street behind him.

Couldn't have been scripted any better.

Just got this text from a friend who is quoting JAV from TOS.... let’s hope he’s as lost as the rest of us.

“I'm hardly the first to say this but I've been asked about it a ton. Jon Gruden will not be the HC at UT. Definitive no and we are moving on. There were always hurdles to hire him. We tried to go over, under and around those hurdles but it is not going to happen in the end. This is NOT a failure by UT administration. It just comes down to a guy that does not want to coach college football. There is no reason to be angry, downtrodden or depressed about this. There are very good football coaches who are interested in coming here. We need to celebrate that truth and get ready for the next opportunity to be a great football program again. I would also caution listening to anyone who claims AD sources in all of this. Any talk is coming from boosters and other coaches. Currie isn't leaking anything. That means that info is going to be hard to come by, even for the very best of journalists.“
