What is that Clay Travis stuff a couple of pages back?

Something about 0% to MNF, Tennessee and Cleveland. 100% to Arkansas.

??

fwiw, i could not find that tweet, however, he did retweet the Low statement of Gruden bieng interested in TN if DD were fired.

Bah. Thanks.

I'm getting sucked into this just like the Peyton sweepstakes. I'd gladly trade losing out on him for a couple seasons as a Titan for a decade of Gruden as a Vol.

I went to see if that is what was said and couldn't find it either. I can't stand Clay and do not listen to 3HL , but for what it's worth he has an article he put up answering questions about 18 hours ago. He doesn't say anything about Arkansas , so I doubt that is his opinion. Not that it really makes much of a difference to me.

"Doesn't Dave Hart have to fire Dooley mid season, assuming losses to Bama and USC, to get ahead in the coaching search?"

This is a good question and one I was debating with my friend Chad Withrow at 104.5.

It gets down to whether Dave Hart considers a 7-5 season to be worthy of keeping Dooley. In that case you've lost to all the big opponents on the schedule and your best win is what, N.C. State at a neutral site, Vandy on the road? I mean, the pickings are slim.

That's why I asked Dooley on Wednesday whether he'd been given any indication that he had to beat Alabama or South Carolina to keep his job. His response? "I don't know."

If you've seen enough at that point to fire him, I think pulling the trigger after the South Carolina game makes sense. Why? Because it's the same road map that Mike Hamilton followed on firing Fulmer in 2008. Fulmer was 2-6 after the South Carolina loss, but the final four games of the season the Vols would still be favored to win. So if Fulmer won those four and got UT bowl eligible it would be harder to fire him then. Because even if your team is mediocre or bad, you want to fire at the absolute bottom.

Losing to South Carolina would probably be the bottom for Dooley.

And if he wasn't fired he'd still have a decent chance to string together four wins and get to 7-5.

Then it's harder to fire him after the season.

Especially with other schools all trying to get involved in the coaching search.

So, yeah, I think Hart needs to make his mind up by the end of the South Carolina game. Especially if he's interested in chasing Jon Gruden or Bobby Petrino, two coaches that are out of work right now. Remember that news of Mike Hamilton hiring Lane Kiffin was out before the season even ended. In fact, the day of Fulmer's final game at UT, the front page of the Knoxville newspaper was about Lane Kiffin's hiring.

We'll see what happens, but if Dooley loses to Bama and South Carolina and isn't fired before the Troy game, I think it's a tacist acknowledgment that he has a good shot of surviving the 7-5 season. If he's fired, I think it's a good sign that Dave Hart is going to make a legitimate run at hiring Jon Gruden."

If we lose to both Alabama and South Carolina, he should be gone immediately. I keep seeing he'd still finish 7-5 but that's not guaranteed. Lost to Kentucky last year and went to OT with Vandy. If Franklin is back, Missouri isn't a guaranteed win either.

Normally I have a 5 sentence rule but I like you so I read every dang word.
Don't do that again please

:eek:lol:

I didn't want to post the link and give Travis any hits on his website.

Other than this, has anybody asked Dooley or has Dooley made any statements concerning his job security? Surely Dooley knows his days are numbered. How awkward would it be for DD and Hart to be in the same room right now.

You guys need to learn how to use twitter...
Clay Travis tweeted asking for odds on where Gruden would end up...someone, apparently a hog fan, retweeted/responded 100% to arky...more delusional piggies...Clay was simply asking the question... Lay off the panic button

Not that I know of. Somebody else may have. Hart and Dooley were on the plane ride home from MSU. I heard it didn't go too well for obvious reasons. Dooley may not be a good football coach , but he isn't dumb. He knows.

&rkpulliam is Randy Pulliam a lawyer in Arkansas, friends with CTravis no doubt. They tweet each often.
He sent that tweet to Clay yesterday but there's no reply on his account.
Clay's not an idiot, this is obviously a joke between friends to get each fan base fired up.
And it worked.

Dooley is a big boy and has been around college football his entire life. He knows the only thing that can keep him in a job is winning which he hasn't done and can offer little evidence for improvement. Nothing Hart can do about it so I doubt there is much tension between them. It is a simple business decision. It is just a matter of how long Hart and the boosters have the stomach for losing. IMHO

No panic here. Blackmarket has been worried for nothing imo.

He got a little wound up with the Arky stuff.

Well to his defense several of us have got wrapped up in this and as you guys know we invest our heart and souls in our vols. so when something as great as a Gruden hire comes along you get real paranoid something or someone could throw a wrench in the mix.

I agree with you for once. I also think the fact that there is so much more talent on this team than a 7-5 record would indicate, is even more damning than saying "hey, we're still building the talent on a depleted roster, blah-blah-blah."

To me, the Kentucky loss, last year sealed his fate as a HC. It was commonly accepted that this season would be the last one for Dooley to show SOME improvement. 7 coaches bailing is a sign that the ship is indeed sinking.

I think, had he promoted Thompson to DC, then the defense would have fared much better this season. No transition/learning curve to slow the players down. Bet Dooley is wishing he could do that decision over.

I'm still wound up, I know i'm putting a little too much stock into message boards, but when someone says "Gruden 100%, bank on it" i get a little worried. I still have no idea why Arky would be "the right opportunity" that he's been talking about.

Thanks Jay.

It has been my experience that Jay is legit .

Take care.

You too, my friend. Pull you up a chair here in the Gruden thread. We'll kill a few brain cells...on second thought, I can't afford to lose many more. How are you?
