That is awesome!!!!

I have 3 problems with what the UT official said and the bottom of that article about Dooley asking for his buyout last year.

1. South Carolina had been a bottom dweller for most of their existence in the SEC before Spurrier got there. They literally could only go up and since their program was historically bad compared to the rest of the SEC a few more years of mediocrity at best didn't hold matter as much to them as it does UT. They quite simply had no choice but to give a "PROVEN" coach time to change things around. Which brings me to my next problem.

2. Steve Spurrier had a 100000000000000000000x better resume than Dooley. He had taken a maybe the worst team in the BCS conferences, Duke, to the top of the ACC. He also won multiple championships at Florida and has NFL head coaching experience. To not give him more than 3 years to turn South Carolina around would have been simply idiotic! Dooley on the other hand is 0-21 all time against ranked opponents, has only 1 winning season on his coaching resume and has only won 1 SEC game in the last two seasons with SEVERAL NFL caliber players on his roster. What the hell are we waiting on him to do. We are literally waiting on him to do something he has never come close to doing. Plus, if this article is true Dooley himself doesn't even believe he can get the job done. Why?

3. When did we become South Carolina? Before Saban and before Spurrier, you would have to compare UT to Alabama much more so than South Carolina. With the resources this University has, the success this program has had, donors, recruiting budget, etc. we should be comparing ourselves to Alabama much more than USCe in terms of rebuilding processes. That type of thinking by the UT official is exactly the reason Tennessee is in its current state.

I know I am preaching to the choir but UT needs to think BIG. We don't have a Spurrier or a Saban. WE HAVE DOOLEY. If we are going to give somebody 3 years to turn things around, let's at least do it with somebody with the credentials. We are dangerously close to becoming completely irrelevant. We don't have the time to sit back and have inreasingly fewer butts in the seats at Neyland each year. We need someone who recruits themself because quite frankly Tennessee does not recruit itself like it used to anymore. With the right coach it will again. That time is now and Gruden is the answer!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jay, you being this history guy. Did you know that Rommel traveled to Tennessee to study the tactics of Francis Marion and also Nathan B Forrest.

See, there is always a Tennessee connection.

History buff myself. Love WW2. I knew Rommel studied the tactics of Nathan B Forrest...was a big fan. Didn't know he traveled to Tennessee tho.
