i don't know any other way to take it. You have to spend money to go to the games. I will do it no matter the circumstances, because i love the vols. I'll support the players, and the program.

You are part of the problem. You are part of the reason we can't afford to fire dooley.

what?????

you need to understand that their egos are at stake...they have building and streets on campus named after them. the roi is unmeasurable but the publicity is even more priceless. also don't forget that football supports alot of other areas in a large university like UT. those funds cover other non-revenue generating sports....if the money doesn't come from football then it needs to come from the supporters directly.

What is interesting about all of this is how effortlessly we are all willing to spend other peoples money. I mean, if we fire Dooley and hire Gruden, the tab will be an incredible amount of money no matter how you slice it.

And there really is no ROI for Haslam, or Thornton, etc, other than having UT win some football games. It's pretty crazy if you think about it.

On the other hand, if I was a billionaire, I think I could honestly say that I would do the same thing in a second. Everybody in my family graduated from UT and we donate modestly to academic programs and also have season tickets, but we don't even really think about it. I wonder if that is the way the mega-boosters think?

I mean they will each probably have 10 mil invested in this hire by the time it is all said and done. That is a ton of cash and these guys didn't get rich by being loose with the dough.

It's just crazy, and awesome, how far some people will go for UT.

Its pretty evident the powers that be (which would include several people) have done the cost analysis on what happens if we keep the current track, and what is projected to happen (there has been some pieces already come out on this) if you hire a Gruden type. Im sure they have put a lot of thought into the cost and the revenue both will generate.

Been a fan since the early 70's and the 990 crowd that never questions authority on anything annoys me. I'm sure you are a true fan but don't tell me that I'm not because I or someone else chooses not to take the status quo as best we can do.

An excited UT fanbase=millions of dollars for Knoxville businesses on gameday weekends. Businesses which the Haslams and Thorntons have money invested in (aside from just gas stations).

These are good points, but there is no chance they make all that money back.

Of course, but I think that the overall ROI for them is sometimes overstated in this sense. Especially in Thornton's case.

A rising tide lifts all boats, but I suspect that for a lot of these guys, it is a matter of pride more than anything. They are just like us, but with a whole lot more money.

Right. We go to Wally world when we get extra dough, they play with it in the UTAD.
