I keep seeing all of these posts about UTs past in hiring coaches and not going big or thinking low budget or whatever. My thoughts.

We only hired 4 coaches in the last 35 years or so. 2 of those were UT guys both of which were not in the inflated coaches pay era. That really didn't start to take off until after PF had coached here for a few years.

Then came the LK and DD hires. Most do not hold a very high opinion of LK because of how and when he left, but I think its pretty evident the guy can coach and recruit. We did not spend a high dollar amount on him individually but we did spend a pretty good amount on his staff.

Then came the Dooley era. Its well documented that the job was not very attractive at all for several reasons and one can debate if Dooley was the only option, but that hire came at a time where it would have been impossible to hire what we can now.

In short UTs doesn't have a long track record of going cheap. The track record for hiring football coaches is not very extensive anyway. We haven't really done a lot of it. IMO

I'm with you. It's just that the AD and our boosters didn't take that attitude for a long time. It appears that has changed with the continued floundering of the program and Bama's example as a commitment to excellence.

I really saw where Orangeslice was coming from with his doubt based on past history and it's giving me hope that he has changed his outlook somewhat.

Yeah....it's poor. I don't know how it's possible, but both parties involved are overmatched. This should be a slam dunk for the pro-change guy.

The pro Dooley guy is using the excuse of Dooley needs more time to get his own tallent on the team, and his guys are only juniors, no senior leadership blah blah blah.

Agreed. Negotiations I can do all day...waiting for decisions do not make me happy.

I do believe something is happening, I have listened and read your opinion for several hours a day in this thread. I want it to happen. Not only is it your job but your duty as well sir, so tell me something good this morning. :)

Good. You should feel that way.

We've made one bad hire (Dooley), and that was made by possibly our worst AD in history two weeks before signing day. It was a unique situation. People may not like Kiffin, but he's a good coach. We must fix the mistake and continue our place of prominence.

All is quiet on this front too. It actually makes me comfortable, knowing what we know. Things are only this quiet when things are happening.


Thanks for the knee advice. Wondered why it was so sore.

Ok....let me try again. It's not my job to repeat myself over and over. If you've read, you know where we stand. Nothing has changed simply because info has tightened up. In fact, the timeline that I originally stated has never changed. The developments of the last couple if days only solidified my view of the timeline.

Now we wait.

Listening to you guys is one thing, when Ainge is hinting that what it takes to hire the home run is "chump change" compared to what some of our boosters throw around, is another level of assurance.
