Their biggest argument against us getting Gruden is they say we are broke and they aren't. They also seem to think we will not hire a big named coach. They try to ignore any of the connections JG has to Tennessee probably because the lack of connections he has with them.Realistically, what does pigville have that we don't have, only better?
If I were Hart, I'd accept advice and money from the powerful boosters, even solicit their input.
But make no mistake...If he accepts a coaching candidate that is forced upon him by the boosters and that candidate fails, he's the one left holding the bag of **** and it's his job on the line. The boosters get to keep on being boosters long after the AD is fired.
I think he'd definitely be on board with Gruden. But let's not get crazy here. Any AD worth his salt makes his/her own decisions and doesn't get force-fed a candidate just because the boosters say so, because those same boosters will turn on the AD quicker than they'll give him money.
Basilio said on his blog today that Hart has not hired a football coach in 20 years. It was Steve Logan at East Carolina in 1992. Just let that sink in folks.
If Hart is set on Smart, the boosters need to step in. Sorry, but Smart is not the answer. That kind of thinking is what got us into this mess.
