From WAAMBLAville.

"I was told today from a source close to the Foundation that the 6 million dollar salary figure that's being touted as having been already approved for a so called super hire is not true.

I was also told that the Gruden rumors are coming from a New York based businessman who has dealings with some Hog boosters in NWA.

The person I talked to said the guy is good at his job but he thinks he's full of it on the Gruden stuff.

I think it's believable that there is a target out there above Patterson and Gruden. I don't think it's Gruden but you never say never in my business."

Had a great conversation with a friend who happened to play in the mid eighties.First he is still very connected to the program. He said with out a shadow of doubt Dooley was done.(Which we all already knew). Then he told me that JG was a ga when he was there. He said one of the reasons he thinks JG wants to be here is Majors.I was in shock and ask why.He said think about this your a young coach hinging on every word of your first mentor.Who better to tell the history and storys of Tn.football than JM.Said it has always left a huge impression on Jg.Thats the reason he values this job.In a way hes coming home to what he considers his football mecca. On a side note he said he is a very humble approachable guy.Unlike what we just got rid of.He said he was going to take his Dad to a practice this summer and was told he couldnt do it on the day he requested. So he went any way. When he got toHaslem field 20min before practice was starting Dooley was there chewing out a gardner for the way he was triming the hedges.

Judging from your location, and the story you recount, especially about Majors, I think your source and mine are one and the same!

Did, perchance, he happen to be a critical but unsung part of something the Vols have struggled with for several years now?

that is not in the same class as real moonshine .

How would you feel if Jon Gruden stepped up to mic in a packed Tommy Bowl and said, "I am sure glad to be the head coach at the University of Tennessee. Actually, I wanted this job 4 years ago and Mike Hamilton would not talk to me."

....well...I can't speak for anyone else but I would puke

I like the Likker and Brew discussions we have on here to fill gaps between BOOMIN GRUDEN NEWS!!

I added this to the Cliff Notes. I posted a shorter version earlier inside the Gruden thread series. Since this is my only contribution of information, I did a little more research and am letting it rip...

Frank Frangie, co-host of an afternoon sports talk show in 1010 XL in Jacksonville, FL, has been calling Gruden to Tennessee since the offseason. Frangie is also a known longtime friend of Ron Zook, so Zook may be his source.

I most recently heard him mention Gruden to Tennessee on Oct. 29. Frangie said he "really thinks" Gruden is the next Tennessee coach. He pointed out that he said that on the air during the offseason, and people thought he was crazy, but he believed it then and still believes it now. He said he knows there have been conversations.

They were discussing each SEC hot seat. A co-host said he expects Dooley to survive the season and then be fired.

Sorry, I haven't found an audio clip, but here's a link to a Florida fan saying he'd heard Frangie say this on the air, a description of Frangie's show, and a link to an article quoting Frangie discussing Zook and Gruden.

From GatorSports.com:
"Frank Frangie seems to believe Gruden is a done deal. He's been saying that for a whole."
GatorSports.com | View topic - Dooley at some point in time will be fired by UT

Frank Frangie's show:

Article from this past summer about Zook:
"
"Football is in his system," said Frank Frangie, a Jacksonville radio host and longtime Zook friend. "That's why he and Jon (Gruden) spend so much time together watching tape and talking football. He's as happy and relaxed as I've ever seen him but still chomping at the bit for the next thing."
Frangie talks to Zook almost every day.

I've had coworkers tell me more than once since August that they heard Frangie calling Gruden to Tennessee. Frangie isn't a national radio host, but this is Gator/Dawg/Nole country; this isn't a place for Vol homers.

Not too far from a post I made a month or so ago about practice. Fulmer and Kiffin extended a personal invite to me for practice access but Dooley yanked it so I have not been since his hire. The guy in my avi (who you may recognize) was a player while JG was a ga and I have heard similar intel about JG love for UT and Majors.
Why yes I do recognize the hit man Dale Jones. One of my all time favorites.Lots of crazy stories about him.lol

To be honest, Im not even sure why he left. Was it grades? Or was he just not happy with Dools?

Too big and slow for safety, to small for LB. Word was that Dooley told him that there wasn't a place for him on the roster and recommended that he find another situation before starting classes.

I can't vouch for that, but that is what was conveyed to me.

Bahaha, no Gruden for them. Not that we didn't already know that.

Better than Gruden though? Yeah right.
