"The Word for Today"

Working on a lengthy story about which newly hired coach in Tennessee football history faced the most obstacles in assembling a wining program. The "Big Three" so far are Gen. Neyland, Doug Dickey, and John Majors. Each had their own unique set of problems when they assumed the big chair at Tennessee.

Lots of work involved in that effort, so please be patient.

Speaking of patience, here's what one person close to the coaching search process said about the quest for a new head football coach, specifically Jon Gruden.

"There's a great deal more fire than smoke."

No one knows for sure where all this will lead. It's hard to counsel patience in this instant gratification society, but patience is the word for today, from someone who should know.

You are not alone.

Good, because first of all it's not believable. A second of all, if Gruden is actually coming, and he is doing this-it's asinine. He wants and 8 year deal, $5mil for his staff, oh, and one last check from Tampa freaking Bay so he can "stick it to them." All while essentially holding this program and fanbase hostage during a time when Arkansas and Auburn will be hiring coaches.

And why wait that long? It makes the most sense in the world to announce on Saturday and steal some of the thunder away from Championship games.

(I can't believe I'm about to type what I'm about to type)

*SUPPOSEDLY* Knox County Sheriff's Office is meeting (or has met with) with Dave Hart & Co. concerning providing security for an upcoming [coaching?] announcement.

This is third-party news, but I trust its source.

I apologize in advance for adding more speculation into what has already become the biggest cluster **** of rumors, innuendo, and speculation in the history of the university.

several recent rumors indicated a friday presser - who knows maybe someone is right about something haha

You thought we were the laughing stock before imagine what they will say when 300 people show up for a home game...

I'm starting to suspect we may be getting played by Gruden and his agent. Why? Cause, although we have never gotten a sniff from him before, he's gotten this far along the process with both Miami and ND, only to exit stage right just before the official vows.

If he's (at the behest of his agent) pulling the same trick, just to get more $$$ from ESPN, it's going to look like Hart bungled the deal. I'm no fan of Hart, myself. But I think Gruden may be pulling a heist here and leave DH holding the bag.

Wouldn't they use the City PoPo?

I may take a day off of work and pop a trash can size bag of popcorn for when Golden is announced. This place will be absolute internet gold.

I know this has been discussed before but probably lost in the speed of this thread. Has anyone else noticed how "public" Arky and Auburn's search has been? Weird how ours is so top secret??!!

He went 13-0 in 2008 and has steadily declined since then. This past year he was 5-7 (hum, that record sounds familiar)[/QUOTE

How so? He had back to back 10 win seasons in 2009 & 2010. In 2011, first year in the PAC-12, he posted a 8-5 record. Given the past few years I'd be happy just to get a 7 win season & a bowl win. I'd take him over Golden or Jones.

I leave for lunch and have to read every other page just to catch back up. I'm sure I missed some things but I'm also sure it won't matter when GRUDEN is annouced. ALL IN!!!:worship:

All Hart has to do is look at how many the U had in attendance this year to realize Golden will not help our situation...

Shut your mouth! That makes sense and it scares me!

Good post, several sources now on the KPD meeting.

As far as the highlighted, remember 5 years ago or even 3, how many people new of VN or Twitter or Facebook???

Many places now to be an "insider". JMO

Wait, did Arkansas and Auburn hire their coaches? Did I miss something?

This is floating around in several circles. I trust it FWIW.

Dude, I've never been "in the loop." Ever.

....as I type this he just text me.

Apparently it was to discuss a game plan for when it "does happen."

So false alarm?
