Working on a lengthy story about which newly hired coach in Tennessee football history faced the most obstacles in assembling a wining program. The "Big Three" so far are Gen. Neyland, Doug Dickey, and John Majors. Each had their own unique set of problems when they assumed the big chair at Tennessee.

Lots of work involved in that effort, so please be patient.

Speaking of patience, here's what one person close to the coaching search process said about the quest for a new head football coach, specifically Jon Gruden.

"There's a great deal more fire than smoke."

No one knows for sure where all this will lead. It's hard to counsel patience in this instant gratification society, but patience is the word for today, from someone who should know.

So I guess I now know what a heroin addict feels like. I know this thread is bad for me, yet I just can't stop. And as soon as I get close to walking away some cryptic BS like that pulls me back in. I'll say this, if I ran into someone that claimed to be inside of all of this, and they told me that with a grin on their face I might punch them. But only 2 more weeks of this right?

Out of respect to his wife's alma mater, I don't think Gruden would use UT as leverage for an NFL gig. Doesn't seem right.

not to mention a man he considers a mentor in Jonny Majors, and a guy like Peyton. Gruden wouldnt burn those bridges imo

A couple times a year. Usually June and September. Stays full though, only 3 open weeks in a year. Pretty good deal. Love that area.

But I don't know how much he really knows aout coaching changes. He's been around for a couple I think

One question, did he predict Dooley or Kiffin? Any discussion of them at all from him? Asking because I don't know.

Wait, did Arkansas and Auburn hire their coaches? Did I miss something?

Yes-what I meant since the whole premise of my issue was based on the timeline posted in the Cliff Notes. We are being told he wants to wait until mid-December to announce. Good chance one of those schools will have hired a coach by then, if not both.

How so? He had back to back 10 win seasons in 2009 & 2010. In 2011, first year in the PAC-12, he posted a 8-5 record. Given the past few years I'd be happy just to get a 7 win season & a bowl win. I'd take him over Golden or Jones.

I will not argue with the last sentence just like I would take the chubby girl or the morbidly obese one. Either way, you are stuck with a fatty.

Hart vowed to keep the AD on lockdown which was the exact opposite of what Hamilton did. Especially in the debacle that was the Dooley hire.

All Hart has to do is look at how many the U had in attendance this year to realize Golden will not help our situation...

Coral Gables isnt KNoxville. I dont want Golden either, but Miami doesnt have great fan support for anything. The Heat even had issues with it last year.

Hope you're kidding. I'm a cameraman myself and can validate that as being a set of sticks with a liquid video head that is set up for a large format broadcast camera.

That is a very expensive rig.
