Who knows anymore? It would help some of us admitted fanatics move on. If it were a smoke screen and he were still hired after the denial we would still be ecstatic.

Wow, Rucker made a great point.

If Tennessee is an elite program, like the fans think, why do they think Gruden is the only "good" hire?

Pretty fantastic logic...

This whole process is very interesting to see play out, hope in motion.

What about context?

Saban was struggling at the Dolphins having gone from 9-7 in 2005 to 6-10 in 2006. Not a very hot commodity and likely experiencing some personal doubts.

In contrast, Gruden by most reports is THE prospect to fill any coaching vacancy at either the college or NFL level. Everyone seems to want him. Not to mention his current job by most standards is better than ANY coaching gig considering his role, time invested and compensation. Saban never had it so good. Bet he'd swap places this very moment.

Will Gruden come? Who knows, it's not looking good though. Frankly, not that concerned either way... more interested in results 2-3 years from now. With this level of hope placed on an individual hire – Gruden specifically, what will be the expectation should it come to fruition? Most will recognize unrealistic expectations is something Vol fans need less of, not more.

If comparing Saban-to-UA and Gruden-to-UT they are not the same and the expectation shouldn’t be either. Saban was proven at the college level, Gruden’s not. Recruiting circumstances are nowhere near the same and Saban walked into the best class of prospects the state of Alabama had ever seen upon arrival. Go back and check it out.

This post is too long. The short of it is any hire deserves our support (Gruden or otherwise). Results are what ultimately decide whether it was good or bad, the rest is just hope.

Something really is strange about all this if you just try and be objective. No way all thse people and their sources just made all this up.

1. Hart messed this up at the 11th hour as some suggested (which will lead to him being fired IMO cause the the boosters being pissed)

2. Things started leaking out too quick for the timeline they had. Keep in mind we originally heard not till mid Dec. was this to be announced cause of various things...tampa check, MNF, and other deals possibly. So they had to make it seem like no deal is possible.

Am pissed like everyone, but we all need to take a step back and just see how it plays out. Too much doesn't make sense right now to just freak out.

Boro, does anyone know when Jon's last payment from the Glazer's occurs? If there were even a sniff of him taking another coaching job they'd have their legal dept all over not making that last payment.

The reason is that this particular year all the "available coaches" are less than impressive. And we have a history of shoot for the moon and promptly shooting ourselves in the foot.

I got no hatred towords you... none at all. I'm actually mad at the people who are mad at you. You shared real information... that's more than 9k other people online can attest to doing (myself included).
