I hope you are correct and it is something to do with the ESPN gig but, even after the last MNF game this season, Gruden is still under contract as it carries through the next thre years or how ever many years are left on his contract. So regardless if he left now or two weeks from now, he would still be breaking his contract, right???

He signed an extension with ESPN that would last through 2016, and I have no doubt (and various reporters have speculated) that there's no way he'd have a contract with them that he couldn't get out of to coach again. He's the one guy in the booth, every year, that folks always think might leave if the right job opportunity pops up. I highly doubt he's fully "locked in" for the remainder of his contract.

What I was getting at, is if he leaves now (according to my admittedly crazy theory) in addition to all the drama that would come from leaving said job, he could potentially risk losing 1.1 million dollars if he doesn't do it the right way, which makes a ton of sense (also a crazy theory of mine and apparently a few others) as to why the last few days have played out the way they have.

It's much less crazy to think everyone panicked to put a pause on the situation (probably from his recommendation) than to think that we hadn't talked to him, then did talk to him, just to confirm we weren't interested, then found out he'd had a staff in place with a salary in mind, then heard through his agent that we haven't gotten anywhere close to him all the while seemingly ignoring every other coach on the market.
