I call BS!!!Quick question for you guys. IF, GRUDEN is not the next coach, (presumably hired by boosters), does the University have enough money for a new coach hire and other staff members, including old staffs buyouts. Makes me want to believe that the boosters are still gonna have their way with this.![]()
This is a great theory and fits into what I was speculating earlier. I'm primarily an NFL guy, and I know that most payments in the NFL (at least for players, so I'd assume coaches as well) work on a by-game basis. If you're suspended for 3 games, you miss 3 paychecks.
It wouldn't be crazy to assume that broadcasters covering the NFL's contracts are worded with similar language. It also wouldn't be crazy to assume that Gruden's ESPN contract has some language written into it that his payments would be voided if he was under any other high-profile employment.
Now- folks could easily argue "well then why doesn't he just announce he'll be signing after the last MNF payment, or the AD at least let everyone know we have our guy." And that is a good argument, however, couldn't lawyers prove such a scenario was a case of tampering and undermining the good-faith intentions of a employers contract? Maybe, maybe not. It might not stick, but it's something that (if ESPN didn't want him to go) would at least muddy up his name, cost money out of his pocket to defend, and totally burn a bridge with them for any future employment opportunities. Also, people often speculate that his current ESPN contract (probably) states he can leave for a head coaching job in the NFL. Can that be verified? Doubtful. Also, even if that is the case, our job is not an NFL job and as specific as high-end contracts are worded, I'm sure there's a definite difference between the two in whatever he signed.
It's starting to make sense, this crazy narrative I'm writing in my head, that is. Again, the more I think about this, the more I'm confident in my theory being somewhere close to the truth. 1.1 million dollars and not getting burdened with a potential ESPN smear-campaign/legal drama is well, well worth postponing an official decision for a few more weeks.
I may need to look into this tinfoil hat thing
All I have heard is that a big argument between the AD and some money guys. My understanding is it started Wednesday evening then Thursday it blew up. I have nothing direct as of Thursday night. I received a txt that said we have a problem. Next thing I know I heard the TFP was going to break that Gruden had the offer. Then it all went dark. Best I can piece together is a disagreement occurred Wednesday then Thursday evening some of the inside guys said we are going to let the media in on it in an effort to force the issue. I am just not sure it was Thunder as some have speculated. Who knows at this point. I just know enough to say the door is not totally shut.
This is the first time i've posted here, or anywhere for that matter, but this is an absolute cluster f*#k with this coaching search. My son is 8 yrs old and is quickly becoming an oregon and freakin bama fan. He's tries to like UT to make me proud but its just for show. There are major consequences to this program being in the tank for a few years now. Our tennessee youngsters are watching the big orange get their a**es handed to them on a weekly basis. My personal hope was to land gruden because he could bring top talent in right away and put neyland stadium into an absolute frenzy on big game nights....just like i grew up watching. Hopefully this would impact my 8 yr old and eventually our new son as well - but he's a few yrs away from going to a game. I hope they make a good hire, but da*# if this dont feel just like the days leading up to the last great hire. Media outlets are already calling this a "scramble" to find a coach now. If my boys grow up to be bama fans i will personally drive to knoxville and insert my boot directly into dave hart's a**. This school is made of money so lets open the ol' war chest and get back to playing with the big boys or risk losing an entire generation of volzfanz. Im officially gonna step down off the soapbox now.[/QUO
