Lex - what is your version of events on Thursday? Hart and JG cross swords in some way? I'm still mostly speculating about what might have gotten this thing off the tracks. And here is why I'm baffled...
For those that don't know, I believe there was a meeting just before thanksgiving between the big boys and JG. Everyone left that meeting believing he would be the next HC. Hence the heightened messages of "done deal" many of us probably heard around Thanksgiving. My understanding is the official players would be getting involved to get a deal done. Then some noise started midweek. Then Thursday it's off? I don't get how that could happen. The juice was was squarely behind getting Gruden up to that point.
Pick it up from there...
On Thanksgiving (unrelated to this info)...I had it confirmed that talks with Gruden had been occurring for months. I got a text that day confirming that it was done.
Now, several days before that, I had already been told that our next coach was attained, but I got the same info that you did on Thanksgiving. I was also told that an announcement may be forthcoming on Friday.
My handicap is that I don't trust dates and times. Like the OG's I was told that Dooley was done after MSU (with a loss). The people giving me that info were totally unrelated to what was being spouted here.
About three weeks ago, I got info that the AD was beginning to leak about Gundy, Fisher, Golden, Fedora, Strong etc. It made no sense for that list to be coming out when it did...especially considering the cloak of secrecy surrounding the search. It was almost as if it was intended to quell the talk.
Now, read all of these ramblings with this caveat:
I was told from the beginning that controlling the flow of info was very important to Gruden.
I'm certain that whatever deal may be has been in the works for months. By months I mean more than two.
Sorry for the long answer. My opinion is that if the rift between Hart and the Boosters was real....Hart would have been given his walking papers months ago. Any reasonable person in Hart's position would realize that if dealings were to be done with Gruden, that an AD with a sitting coach wouldn't be able to do that.
Once again, I apologize for thinking out loud.
