How do you figure?

5.5 to 6 on Gruden

4 to 4.5 on Staff

Its close to 10 mil

It was more than that. I thought that was established. Gruden wants more money than Saban.

If those were the numbers it would have been done. I'm guessing, but have no internal knowledge, that was what UT offered. Gruden decided not to take the job because he believes he can still get an NFL vacancy. On that, I'm not so sure.

To hire Strong will cost UT approximately $9 million minimum: 2.5 million buyout - 3.5 mill for staff - 3 mill for Strong.

To hire Gundy will cost UT approximately $10 million minumum: 3.0 million buyout - 3.5 mill for staff - 4 mill for Gundy.

Note - $3.5 mill is the amount UT is currently paying for staff per USA today!

Note 2 - Gruden wanted approx $4.5 mill for staff or thereabouts.

Total amount to close deal with Gruden was reported to be $10 million!!!

Think about that Vol fans..... Think about!!! Let it sink in!!!

Tennessee doesn's want to pay Gruden and Co. $10 mill but would pay Gundy $10 mill or Strong $9 mill!!!

The fans need to rattle the cages!!!!

Thanks for doing this. Thats exactly what I suspected.

OK, I listened to the Zook interview. They asked him whether he thought Gruden would be back in the booth or in coaching. Zook said it was funny they mentioned that because he got a text at 3:15AM that morning from Gruden and that actually he was going to go down to see Gruden in Tampa on 11/30 (the day of the denials). Said that two weeks before 11/29 he would have said Gruden would be coaching, but now, just off gut feeling, thinks that Gruden would be back in the ESPN booth.

Wow. I'm not sure if this pisses me off or reassures me we still have Gruden.

Listen to the recording again backwards.

I was looking up a few searches on the YouTube, and there it was. In the description of the Tennesse Football Legends Reunion Video, evidence of the next Coach of The University of Tennessee. (Note please excuse quality of picture.)

I think those numbers are close, but again, that just what I remember and I am probably wrong!

But why the secrecy if he was coming here? Couldn't he just announce he was coming here (which doesn't conflict with NFL) and fulfill his year with ESPN? Of all things concerning a "smokescreen" this is where I hit my snag. If there is a smokescreen, there has to be some reason for secrecy.

They are saying they have heard nothing from anybody that carries the juice to change their mind. That is what is crazy and does not add up. I actually put a little stock in Macgruders theory. It happened once before back in October when everyone got too close.....it just wasn't as severe that time.

If he wears an orange tie tonight I'll be a believer once again....what are BORO, OV or DTO saying now?

I haven't seen a post from any of them today... but this was Boro's last post yeaterday in answer to a question I asked about if he had heard from his sources after the Lamonte announcement about Gruden....

I blame Lane Kiffin....

By the way, I wonder what Dooley is doing these days? Probably combing his hair, and laughing when he looks at his bank account!

The buyout is a one time thing you will have to pay Gruden's Staff that much for all the years they are here.

Great point.

I think that the point is moot. If Gruden is hired and the investment is made, the amount you would be talking in potential year-to-year difference in HC/Staff would be eliminated by the potential revenue increase, especially in the short term.

What? Why 11/30? Gruden was supposed to be in DC on that day interviewing RG3.
