Let me know when the ink is dry...

I want to be sure to get on that web site that'll let you track the UK booster's jet enroute to pick up the new TopCat...

Funny you should mention that. My favorite rumor is that Donovan's wife was house hunting in Lex over the weekend :birgits_giggle: .

I just wish we could explain what a hole Lexington is compared to Gainesville. Unfortunately, Gainesville sucks.

ESPN news is reporting that Rick Pitino issued a statement saying that, although it was a mistake to leave Kentucky in 1997, he has no interest in returning to the school to fill its open head coaching position at this time.

I would say that there are a lot of UK fans who would start a lynch mob if Pitino was even considered for the position.

As a seemingly reasonable person yourself, I believe you underestimate the silliness inherent to most of your comrades.

All I heard over the weekend was how Pitino was in Lexington for a day, which consequently meant that the glory days would soon be returning.

Heh, thanks for the compliment.

Funny. We have fans with a constant watch on airaware.com, looking for flights to/from Gainesville and Lexington, as well as all the other salient cities.

All of the major coaching searches will heat up by midweek. Once the coaches convene in Atlanta for the NABC conference, ADs will have everyone they wish to speak with in one place. I'd be shocked if Kentucky, Michigan, Iowa, and Arkansas aren't at least in final negotiations with candidates by next Wednesday. I especially feel that way about Arkansas. While I think Stan Heath was over his head in the SEC, you don't fire a guy who has made the Tournament the last two seasons unless you already have a solid lead on his replacement.

WAVE-TV? With a UK coaching change, I doubt Dave Baker (yes, that Dave Baker) of WKYT will get scooped. I notice that WKYT did not run that story. That's all I need to know for now.

I'm with you on this one, but you never know.

Donovan finalizing a deal with his team on the way to the Final Four would be very, very bad form.

It's Donovan's agent, not Donovan. What's bad form is somebody's inability to shut their trap until after next Monday. :/

Yep, I'd be pretty concerned right now if I were a gator fan. Apparently, there's some legs to this story according to Bird.

Time will tell, but the story leaking so early can't be a good thing for UK. It might actually scuttle any deal.

Donovan's agent isn't doing anything without Billy's consent. If that meeting is to happen, it should happen Tuesday.

After listening to my share of uneducated sports talk blather on this subject I'm ready to throw my uneducated guess on the table. Rick Pitino will go back to Kentucky if Billy Donovan does not take the job. IMO there is a slim chance that Donovan will make the move because he loses a bunch of talent next year at UF, so either way he's in rebuilding mode in which case money and prestige (being the hoops coach at UF will never be = to being the hoops coach at KY, regardless of C-ships) could be the deciding factors.

So far I'm not seeing any large or national media source confirm the rumors of a Kentucky offer to Donovan. On the way into the office, a locla radio station said that a Washington radio station reported 7 years at $3.5 million, but as I say no confirmation. What does worry me is the lack of anyone saying its not so. If it weren't, one would think that by now Donovan or UK would have denied it.

I still don't get the move. I mean, surely UF would up Donovan's salary to whatever it needed to in order to be competitive with any other school's offer. We can't compete with the NBA, obviously, and if he got a good offer to take one of those jobs I can see it.

I also don't like the idea that he would actively negotiate with his team still in the tournament. That doesn't seem right to me, but with all the starters and Richards leaving, maybe he is not feelign the need to be as careful as one would expect in this situation. Seems a shame to the freshmen and recruits, though.

If this happens, I guess Florida takes a huge step back and has to completely revamp the program. It would probably mean no post-season for a long time. Who would want the Florida job following this kind of success? Not many.

The new numbers flying around Lexington are 7 year 24.5 million dollar deal with an extra 3.5 million of incentives.

If Billy passes on a possible 4 million a year and stays at Florida, what is Meyer's worth?
