You're new here and probably don't realize that we have to lean on ancient history to talk smack.
we lost to idaho repeatedly when I was in school. we lost to new mexico state once. that was terrible. san jose state. hawaii beat us by like 50 a few times. in my freshman year, we didn't score an offensive touchdown until the 6th game or something like that.
and random question. can somebody tell me what the stars mean under my name? they're very hypnotic.
2001 was the last time UT was relevant on the national stage. That's what I was referring to.
IMO.
An sec title game in 07 isn't even relevant? We lost the sec title game by one touchdown and won the outback bowl. I think we were atleast relevant.
Really? SEC power and National Champ, UT is better than Utah State. That's your argument?
UT has slipped...
You're right. After I posted that I left but while I was gone I figured that's what you meant. 2001 was a great team.
It's not as relevant as you might think. UT lost 3 games that year and 2 were serious ass beatings. UT won the Outback Bowl, so? A #16 vs #18 match-up in the bowl season doesn't move the needle. Sure, it's a far cry from where we are at the moment, but on the national level, it wasn't that big of a deal.
I've been all over Utah. Those touristy places are nice. Southern Utah is very moon looking. No trees, no green, no water, all brown sandy landscape. Scrub oak everywhere. No grass. "Rivers" that are actually small creeks you can step across. To each his own I guess. I got out there and really started to miss east Tn.
Obviously UT has slipped. But my point was that a Utah St fan is the just about the last person that needs to rag on UT football. Your desire to point out that UT is mid-SEC is idiotic, considering your team is a recent blossom in the mid-major.

Several Vols are here posting that UT will steamroll Utah State.
Recent history (for both teams) suggests that is not too likely.
I've never said anything like Utah State has a better program or even that we will win the game. I believe it will be a good hard fought game.
My only point, really, has been to counter some of the rabid Vols that are arguing that the game will be a beatdown.
I just don't see our recent history (or yours) pointing toward that.
Your 5 victories last year include perennial SEC cellar dweller UK, plus three teams that are essentially FCS. WKU was in year 5 of their move to FBS. USA was in year 1. The "Austin Powers Governors" are FCS... barely.
I understand what you are trying to say and honestly, most fans understand the current state of the UT program. IMO, they would just be happy with a "W" and moving on to the next week's game.
However, keep in mind...many teams (good, avg. or just plain bad) have come to Knoxville to play UT and be mentally and physically prepared for the match up. Then they step on the field prior to kickoff and see Neyland for what it is from a field perspective. It can be VERY intimidating for the opponent and I've seen teams fall apart early with that attributing to their collapse.
Granted USU plays in a respectable conference, but it's not the SEC and playing in those venues week in and out makes a difference.
Neyland is awesome and it will be one of the great college football environments that these kids get a chance to play in during their college career.
Really? That all you got. Hmm. I have nothing, You know why? Because USU is Irrelevant. Hard to talk smack when your school hasn't amounted to be anything.
